I think the height seems fine, but it seems a bit small overall --- ie length. How big is your sofa?

It's smallish, about 78".

I do not like higher coffee tables, so as much as it is a beautiful table, this wouldn't work for us.

But then again I have a Lane Acclaim vintage coffee table that is only about 14.5" high. I once mistakenly bought a coffee table that was too high from a thrift store, and I wound up re-thrifting it. We also have a vintage Drexel sofa.

Rule of thumb is the coffee table should be 2/3 the length of the sofa, so that would be ~52", or a foot longer than this one. Obv you can break the rules but I think it may look small as a sofa table, and is more of an occasional table.

This is the room. Current table is about 40 inches square. I feel it is a bit too deep for the space. Im in the process of making changes in here so please excuse random items scattered about!

That's a lovely room, Teeda. If you love it, the FB table would work in that space--same width as current table, just not as deep. In this case, I like that the table is a bit higher.

40" looks fine (wonderful, really) with the current table, so the same length of the new one should work. I think if you love it, you should go get it! I think you'll like the narrower footprint, too.

Okay, I think I'll go and look. It would also work in the sitting room off my kitchen. I'll let you know how it goes!

I know Mtn, I like it a lot. The top needs to be redone and I have been stuck trying to decide what to do with it.

I will have to trust you that it needs to be redone (and you can't just strategically move the books, LOL). But I love it. Love the whole room. My kind of palette!

Oh my teeda, your room is perfect as is - love your current coffee table! .. your gorgeous windows just highlight what you've chosen. I am amazed at the talent here for interior decorating!

I think your current table is too close to the sofa. The FBMP one is really nice, it looks like gilt iron. If you have a narrower table, you can accomodate more leg room at the sofa. (This comes from someone who's husband has really long legs and a size 13 shoe!)

Adding that I like the new one with the mirror and I think the formality of your room would accomodate a higher table.

Well, I bought it! But I tried it in the l/r and wasnt crazy about (seemed a little too high, but I also didnt accessorize it which may have helped). So I moved it to the sitting area off the kitchen and absolutely love it! It replaced a tufted leather ottoman that is being relocated to the family room. The table there (an old Ikea) is going to my grandson to be used as a train table. phew! She sold it to me for $125. It was her mother’s and was purchased at Connecticut Interiors.

Thank you all. The woman I purchased from had moved from her house to a condo and this didn't fit with the new surroundings. OMG, what a fabulous place she had. She was just ending a major remodel. 2,000 square feet, backing up to one of the most beautiful parks/gardens in this area. She has moved to a more MCM/eclectic style. Everything she selected was just amazing, from a vintage brutalist credenza to the light fixtures and cabinetry. Huge master with window seat overlooking the park. And the most adorable little rough coat shorty Jack Russell named Harry. Not only did I want to buy the table, but now I want to move there. Such a great experience!

Oh, spanish1929, I moved the existing bamboo coffee table in the l/r further away from the sofa. Looks much better. We recently moved a large piece of furniture out of the room, so this helped open up the space. We really only use this room when we entertain, other me occasionally reading in one of the chairs. Thanks for the suggestion!

I love the table so much--it's actually more beautiful in person. And because it's a little higher, you can pull stools/ottomans up and sit around it. Thank you Ida. I adore your home. You, and many others here, have inspired me many times to add the extra layer, take a little risk and always try to keep it mine rather than cookie cutter. I do want to do a lot of tweaking to the living room so hopefully will get great help when I share here!
