Need Help With Choosing a Coffee Table

I am interested in finding an affordable coffee table and end tables for a family room. I have two white/cream leather sofas.

I also have this area rug:

I know these are not the most stylish of choices. I am working with a budget and trying to be practical because we are rough on our furniture.

Since the sofa reclines I'm not interested in an ottoman coffee table. I want something that the kids can spread their games on and we (and guests) can put drinks on without worrying too much.

I have had cheap veneer type coffee tables in the past and they always chip and look terrible. I think glass is beautiful but not for this room.

I am thinking of faux marble, stone, or faux travertine. Does anyone have experience with faux/cultured/engineered/ marble?

I am thinking something like this in the white finish.

I would prefer a round coffee table (I don't like sharp corners) but am having difficulty finding anything. I have seen some on Overstock.com but am guessing they are laminate tops made to look like faux marble. I want something that is substantial, heavy, and stone-like. The travertine tables at Macys.com are beautiful but out of my price range and I am worried about real stone cracking and staining.

Thanks for reading this long ramble about coffee tables. Any advice would be appreciated. I am willing to consider other coffee table choices.

In this room is a dark wood TV console and a short black bookcase with glass doors.

I want a coffee table that is durable and practical, and I need end tables, too.

Thanks very much for any suggestions.
