I think a good idea would be to move the chair that is to the left of the sofa (if you are looking at the sofa) and put it where the Christmas tree is now and make sure they are not pushed up against a wall. I would then pull the sofa away from the wall. Pulling furniture away from the walls gives you a feeling of coziness. You could put something behind the sofa and add lamps etc or just pull it away and leave the space open. I think since you have so many windows I would go with a neutral color from your drapes. I love the coziness of your room and your colors. It is bright and looks very inviting. I just purchased a round coffee table ottoman for my home and really love it. I searched and got a deal. I scotch guarded the top to resist any stains. There are so many out there to choose from that are square, oval or round. What I like about mine is the ability to rest your feet on them, hold magazines, phones, or my laptop, and a drink on a book all at the same time. Also, I don't have to dust it or clean it with Windex. Mine has wheels and can roll if needed and one like that on legs would give some visibility to your beautiful rug. It can also hold 250 pounds so it could be used for seating if needed.

Ishack, it was the tone of your communication as much as what was said, and in fact the tone of both communications. However, life is short and this is a minor matter. pandtkendall, I gave the floral sofa away. I bought it used a long time ago and it was rightly pointed out here that it had seen better days. The recipient was so happy to have it, so I consider that a win/win. You're right, of course, there is no right or wrong way to do things, as long as certain rules of decorating are kept in mind. Some people can even break the rules and make it all look good, but I'm not one of them. becky and Sheisback, thank you for the lovely words. I'm not the most confident decorator, and I've received much advice here about different rooms that I've really appreciated. Sometimes I've been steered in directions that hadn't even occurred to me. Other times it's nice just to hear I've done okay.

Do you like those tables made out of formica or whatever type of molded plastic they use? There are both round and rectangular versions. Also tables with formica tops and metal bottoms. My aunt had a black and white kitchen with red accents, very modern, and she had both types of tables, one small end table made out of molded plastic, and then a formica/metal one for the eating area with rattan and metal chairs. Not the low end stuff, it was high end. Google "molded plastic dining room tables" and you will find some good "image" examples. The formica versions are mostly not-loved antiques, although my friend picked up a high end faux wood table and black vinyl upholstered chairs dining set on the curb in a formerly stylish Pittsburgh neighborhood. They've had it now for almost 20 years in a variety of homes, has held up well in style and material. It's kinda danish modern style.
