Has anyone grown Ultraviolet, a Kordes rose?

A supplier here is offering it and the colour looks fabulous, but although HMF has it listed, there are no comments or photos.

Trish, well, I googled it, and there is an Ultra Violet (two words) rose being sold by Jackson & Perkins, Park Seed, and Wayside Gardens (all the same company), and I'm not impressed, but I'm sure it's a different rose than the one you're asking about. This U V is a Simplicity rose which is a type that J&P has sold for many years in other colors. Take a look at J&P to see if it's the rose offered in Australia. I'm intrigued. Diane

According to HMF it's been bred in 2022 but released only in Australia so far for 2023, so it looks like you guys have first dibs on their brand new introduction. That's pretty cool, we'll all love to see it if you decide to grow it.

That sounds like a wonderful rule to go by Marianne (this is my first time growing eggplant but definitely won't be the last and that is a rule I won't forget :) Sulani -- did you get a good harvest from yours? We've got 4 Pandoras and 4 Astrakom eggplants in the garden and the Astrakom's started off having 4 or 5 fruit on each plant at a time but production now seems to be falling off with them quite a lot (about one per plant). Guess it is a good thing that the Pandora's are just starting to fruit.

There isn't a lot you can do about the new growth. It happens. By the time the buds have grown out that far inside, the growth won't harden off. 45F is too warm, as you have found out. Unlike hardy roses, most roses you are going to want to keep garaged aren't very smart when it comes to temperatures. They respond much better to a lack of water, but that has its own issues in a container. In the northeast, where I live, we tend to have wet falls, and getting zone 6 roses to go dormant can be a challenge if you can't turn off the water. However, that is a story for another time. The roses have to be essentially hit over the head with cold enough temperatures that they have no choice but to understand winter is real, winter is coming. Almost by definition, these are sub-freezing temperatures. Then to keep them dormant, temperatures should be close to freezing. I assume you have some temperature control over this garage. For the roses, 35F is probably cold enough. I have an attached, unheated, uninsulated garage, and things definitely freeze out there. 28F is not an issue. The bigger issue is when things start warming up in the spring, and the roses have to be brought out on sunny days, and back in for cold snaps.

Has anyone grown Agastache with roses ?

I walked int a HD garden center a couple of years ago. Pots of Agastache Blue Fortune were covered in bumblebees. I walked out with one (pot). It grows next to a HT in the back. Dies back to the crown in winter, Foliage appears at base first about now. Blooms start last week July here, and go continuously to frost (or beyond). It does not disappoint. Can flop a little once fully in bloom. I use a single raised metal ring to support, and it does fine. Crown is planted 3 feet from base of HT. Each stays in its own lane. Remains a bumblebee magnet.

Wow! Glad to hear it was a good one for you. Trying to find a hybrid tea that will actually grow and bloom and be healthy has been a challenge. I have mostly given up, but I can't resist trying now and then. They are so beautiful and this one smells heavenly.

I just took a look at your link to Treloar's, and that's a gorgeous rose, but it really reminds me of Ascot. I'm sure Kordes wants its own version of Ascot since it's a popular rose. You Aussies have access to some great roses that we can't get--a lot of them. Diane

I just looked at a lot of Treloar's roses. The first thing that struck me was their reasonable prices--around $25 Australian dollars. Then I noticed several roses that popped out as looking very much like Tantau roses but were Kordes. For example, Phoenix, an orange rose, looks a whole lot like Tantau's Naranja, which is Spanish for orange, and Bee Scene looks like one of Tantau's roses especially bred to appeal to bees. There were others. So the two top German companies are really going head to head. I find this so interesting, and good for the consumer--not necessarily the US consumer, sadly. Diane

No you don't. You can get all kinds of Tantau roses we don't have at all here. That's just one company that I can think of right now. I think Australians are much more enthusiastic rose growers than we are in the US, too. I love being contrary, Trish. I'm sorry. Diane

Carry on, Diane. I didn't know we got Tantau roses that you weren't able to. I know we have Augusta Luise , but that's because it's been around forever. Roses aren't grown much in Sydney as far as I've seen, but I saw a lot in Esperance in Western Australia.
