Trish, well, I googled it, and there is an Ultra Violet (two words) rose being sold by Jackson & Perkins, Park Seed, and Wayside Gardens (all the same company), and I'm not impressed, but I'm sure it's a different rose than the one you're asking about. This U V is a Simplicity rose which is a type that J&P has sold for many years in other colors. Take a look at J&P to see if it's the rose offered in Australia. I'm intrigued. Diane

According to HMF it's been bred in 2022 but released only in Australia so far for 2023, so it looks like you guys have first dibs on their brand new introduction. That's pretty cool, we'll all love to see it if you decide to grow it.

I just took a look at your link to Treloar's, and that's a gorgeous rose, but it really reminds me of Ascot. I'm sure Kordes wants its own version of Ascot since it's a popular rose. You Aussies have access to some great roses that we can't get--a lot of them. Diane

I just looked at a lot of Treloar's roses. The first thing that struck me was their reasonable prices--around $25 Australian dollars. Then I noticed several roses that popped out as looking very much like Tantau roses but were Kordes. For example, Phoenix, an orange rose, looks a whole lot like Tantau's Naranja, which is Spanish for orange, and Bee Scene looks like one of Tantau's roses especially bred to appeal to bees. There were others. So the two top German companies are really going head to head. I find this so interesting, and good for the consumer--not necessarily the US consumer, sadly. Diane

No you don't. You can get all kinds of Tantau roses we don't have at all here. That's just one company that I can think of right now. I think Australians are much more enthusiastic rose growers than we are in the US, too. I love being contrary, Trish. I'm sorry. Diane

Carry on, Diane. I didn't know we got Tantau roses that you weren't able to. I know we have Augusta Luise , but that's because it's been around forever. Roses aren't grown much in Sydney as far as I've seen, but I saw a lot in Esperance in Western Australia.
