Comments (6)I considered it, and realized the short lengths would drive me nuts installing them and not match the lengths of the existing floor in other rooms. I used the lowest grade that also offered long lengths - I think it was #2 common. The "utility" or "cabin" grade is often the bad chunks that have been trimmed off to make the higher grades. A clear board with a big knothole turns into a shorter "Clear" and one short "Utility". it will look "busier" because of the knots, color variation and short lengths. That is neither good not bad, it's just the way it is. http://www.hardwoods4less.com/media/wysiwyg/Mapleforarticle.jpg There will be more waste because some boards will be pure trash - allow 15-20% excess. And filling all the knotholes takes a lot of time. There will be BIG knots and holes all the way through the boards....See MoreStaining advice for knotty pine walls and oak floors.
Comments (7)The knotty pine is beautiful, especially in the ceiling. They look to be in very good condition. Is this a family room? If so, I wouldnt do anything until after you have lived in there for a while. You may decide you really like it. If you really think you want to paint it, after you have lived with it for a few months, it can always be painted later. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but, the floors appear to be in decent condition too, and the little bit darker than the walls. They do go good with the knotty pine. Congratulations on your new vintage home. Please keep some of that vintage character. You can always remove, but, you can never put it back, like it was....See MoreLuxury vinyl plank flooring with oak cabinets and pine board ceilings?
