Should I just kill myself now?
Comments (47)Before you kill yourself, you can come over and put me out of my misery. I thought I had Lyme, but that test came back negative. Whatever I have, has made it almost impossible to walk for the last six weeks, so I haven't been out in the garden much. When I have been out, I've been shocked at how much has been eaten. I didn't mind a few nibbles now and then, but this is wholesale carnage in certain areas. This is after I almost ran over a very young fawn with the garden tractor this spring and made it run off, hopefully for good. (this is for the people who worry about mowing chipmunks) A fence is definitely in our future, but I really don't see how to only enclose the garden in a manner that doesn't look like a fortress. I'm also not sure I've really got enough room between my gardens and my neighbor's property....See MoreBone Density Test
Comments (5)I have not spoken personally to the doctor yet (the nurse gave me the results). I have to go for bloodwork to test my thyroid, Vitamin D and calcium levels. Once I get those results back I want to talk to her. I've heard that weight bearing exercises and walking are good. I'm going to start doing my homework on this subject to see what I can do to get this under control. I just started HRT last week (Activella) which is also supposed to help with osteporosis (although I didn't know I had it at the time)....See MoreBone Density Scan
Comments (19)I have borderline osteoporosis and have had several bone density scans over the years. I've been on 4 different medications (including injectable Forteo) to try to boost bone density. It's very difficult to know if they actually help because you do not know what would have happened if not taking the meds. Maybe it would have been the same as with the meds. So people can take them out of fear of getting worse, or just skip it and hope for the best, get exercise, take calcium and other bone building supplements. Right now I'm taking Evista. I'm due for a scan but have skipped it for now but might do it another time. If I've dropped more, what am I going to do, try a fifth medication??...See MoreWho else feels bone dry now?
Comments (60)Defrost, I assume you have to use a drill to put your own drainage in. Turning cattle troughs into raised beds This arrangement has been said to keep rabbits out of the beds, but I imagine it doesn't keep voles or chipmunks or squirrels out. I'm not sure what to suggest. I hope the hardware cloth does the trick, but they can climb into the bed and knaw on your plants. I've often read threads on dealing wtih these critters and can't remember ever reading about any suggestion that was actually successful. I might think about this kind of arrangement - covers for the raised beds. A tunnel or row covers keep insects out but I doubt they keep out voles. The example here looks like they used chicken wire but you could use hardware cloth if the holes need to be smaller. Covers for raised beds I'm sure it is an expense and more work than you want to do. *sigh* It would be for me, but, it seems to me once installed, it would be very easy to use and you'd be done wtih it. Was it you who told me you were a fan of Eliot Coleman? I wonder what he does to deal with critters. He has to have as many as anyone else does. He has always come up with very inventive solutions. My wooden beds are 8 yrs old, hard for me to believe. They are starting to show wear and tear but I think I'd probably get another 4 years out of them. So I have some time to figure out what we want to do next. It's just what am I going to do in the meantime. [g]...See Morededtired
