Granite: Kashmir White or Ivory Fantasy?
Comments (2)Hi! We have Ivory Fantasy and love it. I liked that it had more cream/tan/brown movement in it. We paired it with soft white cabinets and a butcher block on the island - so the creams/tans went well together. If I remember correctly, Kashmir White had more black and grey with flecks of garnet. Although I liked the stone, it didn't really match with the butcher block. I did find that the slabs of ivory fantasy varied greatly - so be sure to check out a few different slabs. We had our IF granite sealed, and no issues at all with any staining. And we have little kids - so lots of spills and sticky messes here! good luck with your reno!...See MoreSuper White (not granite, not quartzite, marble-ish dolomite)
Comments (2)Mamabear, I'll gladly be your enabler. I fell in love with Super White here on GW. When we went to look at slabs at the fabricator our builder used, I didn't hold out much hope that I would find any slabs so never mentioned Super White to DH. As we were walking through the yard, DH was ahead of me. I found him stopped in front of a lot of SW. I couldn't have asked for a better reaction from him. We tagged 3 slabs and took loads of pictures. I committed the GW sin of not obtaining a sample so no testing was done. I was just excited to have found this amazing stone and that DH was totally on board with it. Much drama occured after templating that I won't go into, but ultimately, we ended up with gorgeous countertops in our kitchen, master bath and half bath. We had the fabricator apply a sealer that supposedly would protect it for 10 years. One year after moving into our new home, I have experienced no staining or etching. I'm not an obsessive housekeeper, nor is DH who is home during the day while I work. I do have some small pieces now that I could test, but I've chosen not to. Don't want to jinx my good fortune. Good luck with your decision. I'm certainly happy with mine....See MoreHELP!!! Fantasy brown quartzite or alaska white granite?
Comments (40)Alyssa987 - I had Dallas White on my list for a short time because it was a lighter granite but it wasn't one that I loved and swooned over. The granite yards near me don't seem to carry a lot of white granites, so I haven't been able to see ones like White River or Colonial White in person. I read about staining issues with Kashmir White so I immediately took it off my list. It's tough because the different granite yards call the same granite different names....See MoreFantasy White - Granite, Quartzite or Marble? Recommended?
Comments (11)We recently purchased (and are loving!) our White Macaubus Quartzite counters. I read everything I could get my hands on beforehand, and when we went to choose slabs, I had an old iPhone, extremely sharp tweezers, a pocket knife, a small Phillips screwdriver, and a small ziplock bag of sliced lemons in my coat pocket. I scratched, scratched some more, repeatedly scrubbed with lemon, etc. Discretely, of course : )) I originally was going to bring an empty baby food jar as someone recommended, but having recently replaced my ancient, broken iPhone 4S, that glass worked very well. Some stone places will really know their rock, but IMHO, many times the sales person or the guys moving the slabs around really don't know any more than you or I, so read Karin MT's many posts and test, test, test....See Morefreedomplace1
