Advice needed for new coffee table and end tables

I’d like to update my coffee and end tables. What do you think would look good?

I would remove the mirror. It is too large and the gold doesn't complement the room. I would get an oval coffee table. Get end tables that are the height of the arms of the sofa. The wicker one is a good height just not right for this room. Get another lamp like the brass one so the 2 ends match. Choose an accent color for the room and change out the pillows. Everything is too beige right now. Art where the mirror is would be better (art.com minted.com greatbigcanvas.com)

Personally, I agree with JCK910. But I would reduce the number of throw pillows to at least 1/2 or 1/3 of what you currently have. Where do these pillows go when someone sits on the sofa or chairs? Put excess pillows in a large basket in another room to bring out when kids want to play stepping stones.

Why yes, I does :). I have a black coffee table with a lot of brown in the room. Leather couch/chairs and wooden tables and miscellaneous pieces like the tv shelf. My table is from Thomasville. Here's the advertisement version: I've got a couple of pictures that show it in my room, though not all that well. Here they are: Another angle: I think it all works fine. I will add that the wood accent pieces in the LR tend to the tobacco/darker range. I don't have light wood or leather in there. Hope this helps, Ann

The current dark end table gets lost against the dark floor, so I vote no on dark wood. I think with the white/off white sofa and rug that white tables would be too much (and a white coffee table would get lost against the rug). I think metal, or metal-and-glass, or light wood, could all work well. If you can't move the sofa toward the rug, can you move the rug toward the sofa?

I'm a fan of #2. I always like the look of two club chairs side by side like that. I think having them together as one unit balances out the heft of a sofa and the huge TV. I agree that it makes sense to focus on the coffee table first. Are there any textures in your room? If everything is just flat wood, paint, and upholstery, I'd suggest a coffeetable that has a bit or texture or reflectivity to it. What kind of books are you looking to store in this room? I got a three tired brass and glass coffee table from West Elm recently and it is a fantastic place to display 12 huge art books. Better than a bookshelf. When people sit on the sofa, they actually gaze that the books, pull them out and read them. I like that.

In case you're keeping the mirror, then here are some suggestions:

--Move sofa away from mirror about a foot so mirror seems less overwhelming.

--Get pillows in golds and grays (not acid yellow) this palette
