Advice Needed on Window Treatments for a Bay Window
Comments (6)I have a very similar window in my family room but, since it faces the woods, I leave it free of treatments and hang my sculpture pieces in it. I do have an idea though. Get regular drapes for each side and add a valence across the middle. You can place them higher on the wall than the window frame but not so high as to allow the top of a shade to show. When I did mine in my bedroom I did just that and then added duette fabric blinds that matched the drapes in color and also a room darkening shade on a rod that jutted out a bit more. That way, during the day I raise the shade and the fabric blind gets raised half way. In the evening I pull down both of them. You need to use a rod for the valence and drapery that extends out far enough to compensate for the two treatments that will be under the valence. Have I made that too complicated? It's actually very easy and I found it to be the most reasonable way. I bought the curtains at Country Curtain and the darkening shades and fabric blinds at Lowes....See MoreWindow treatment recommendations
Comments (18)As others have said, window treatments need not be the same, but beware of those that are in visual shot of each other. For instance, the windows in living and dining rooms that adjoin each other, or kitchen windows (typically over the sink) and the kitchen dining are 15 feet away. They need not be identical (although sometimes that’s good) but they should relate so the house doesn’t look like a sample sale. Also, with Roman blinds, be aware that even drawn up they block a good chunk of the upper part of the window, which might be an issue sometimes (depends on the window size, the view, etc)....See MoreAdvice needed for new home window treatments
Comments (4)I agree on front of the house bedrooms, but it won’t be grandkids’ space, which will be the middle room connected to the front room of the Jack and Jill bath. There’s a gorgeous view of a pond in all the rooms on the back of the house, which are a sun room, family room, breakfast room and master bedroom. That didn’t leave other options for seldom used bedrooms. Here is the floor plan, along with a couple of photos. The first photo is looking in through the foyer; second is looking at the pond from the master bedroom. There are cedar beams in several places. There will be white oak engineered flooring through out most of it where there’s not tile. That was an early floor plan, so the flooring listed may not be accurate. I would say the style is craftsman with some elements of modern farmhouse. I think the woven wood blinds with blackout liner will be lovely in rooms where there has to be light control. So far, until we live in the house, that will only be the front bedroom and master bedroom. Thank you for your help! I’m just wanting a uniform look on the front - so thinking a dark liner will match the darkness of uncovered windows. I don’t want to put up blinds on the second floor at all for now, as it will be unfinished for a while....See MoreWindow Treatment advice needed
Comments (33)I can’t choose anything with too much color in it because the rug has a lot of pattern. But I do need texture that’s why I’m looking at these. The living room has 6 windows. The dining room on the other side of the foyer has two windows. This is a big investment so I’m trying to choose the right draperies that would be timeless....See MoreRelated Professionals
