Ehaberlin - in your message above, you mentioned your cabinet depth of 24". You need to check your cabinet width. As I mentioned, there are two silgranit styles you might be interested in. The one I linked in my message above, #511-412, needs a minimum 33" width cabinet. The other Blanco Silgranit single-bowl rectangular sink I mentioned, the #511-652, needs a 36" width cabinet. I think the Home and Stone website has been mentioned as a good source. I know people on this Forum have bought via their eBay store, where you can "Make an Offer", and they accept reasonable offers. Home and Stone is an Authorized Dealer for Blanco. Note that although this 511-652 says "surface mount", it can also be undermounted. I still think the Anthracite would look great, or the Cafe Brown. IMHO, both those colors would be preferable to the biscuit or gray, given the other colors in your kitchen - just my $.02. Hi romy718, Here is a draft layout of my plan. Other than shifting the middle island slightly and giving it that extension on the bottom end, this is the footprint of the existing kitchen, which is dark and not optimally functional. To give you an idea of the current space, the island on the lower right (with a designation "prep sink?") is where my kitchen sink is now, which is approximately 15' away from my cook top. My oven and microwave are inserted into the top left corner taking up an inordinately large amount of counter space. By moving my sink I gain functionality, and even though I lose the upper cabinets that are on the existing wall to a new window, I gain light. By moving ovens I gain counter space. I lose my desk, but there is still a space for dropping stuff off, which will be smaller and thus I hope it will make for less of a visual eyesore. I am also most likely to use a 42" refrigerator and thus won't need the refrigerator drawers. As for size, the long refrigerator wall is ~17', the range wall is a little over 13', and the wall where the sink goes is ~12'. The bottom side opens to the family room and the lower right opens to a breakfast room, which will remain untouched. Any comments on design? I have the room for the 48" range, I'm just not sure if I want to give up that nice large oven on the 36" range. What about the oven stack right next to the fridge, versus having (left to right) fridge then pantry then oven stack then drop-off place? Thanks to all.

Most fabricators will work with 3" in front of the sink. I have that on mine. Aslo, keep in mind that the sink has a lip for undermounting -- looks like it is about 1" all the way around, so 1" of that sink is going to be under the granite in the front. As pointed out above, another inch to two inches will be your overhang. You might have half an inch to an inch in the front taken out of the cabinet depth. In my case, we pulled the sink all the way forward and installed the lip on top of the cabinet box, so we lost nothing but the thickness of the side of the stainless sink. You'll have a bit more with silgranite and the lip may be too thick to set on top of the cabinet box, but it would be worth checking to see if you an scoop it. If you can pull it all the way to the front, you have only 18" plus the thickness of the silgranite if that is not already included in the sink specs (I looked at Blanco sheet and can't tell). The hole for the faucet does have to go behind the lip in back, but if you have 23" on the interior of your cabinet (don't forget to subtract the thickness of the box itself -- probably 3/4 on the front and thinner in the back) that leaves you enough room to install a faucet. It may limit your choices because of handle swing, but that's another issue. One more thought -- you could remove the wood window sill and trim below the window (also on the sides if you want to carry the splash all the way aross) and have your fabricator cut a remnant of your granite to create a sill to match your counters. We did that with our marble, and I had them bullnose it flush to the tile on the backsplash so I didn't lose any room for my faucet handle. It gave me just enough room for the mondo sink and the faucet we wanted (which, of course, has the side handle that swings front to back). Took some planning and working with the fabricator, lots of phone calls in advance, but it worked. The only thing I don't know about is whether the thickness of the silgranite material is included in the 18" or if you have a bit less room to work with than we did with stainless steel (which I like undermounted).

In my last kitchen I had the Blanco Silgranit Super Single, the "Diamond Super Single" with the corner drain like the Julien you mentioned. The corner drain is so great. Right now there is a stainless sink in the kitchen I have now which I am about to remodel. There is no comparison IMHO. Stainless scratches, shows water marks, and is shiny for like only one minute after you clean it. My previous kitchen's Silgranit Super Single was in the anthracite color which is charcoal-black. Before you say "I'd never do a black sink", let me tell you that the black was kinda glam, lovely, and never showed anything. You could dump spaghetti sauce in there and the dark color wouldn't show anything. Black also goes with everything--i.e. no worries you might choose an off shade, or "too yellow" or whatever, the way you might be with other colors.
