Remodeling a fireplace and need advice.
Comments (13)I'm not sure how board and batten will work with your wonderful rough plaster. B&B (or flat-panel wainscot) is really more consistent with colonial, shaker, or arts-and-crafts/craftsman house styles. Your home, from what little the pictures show, is more storybook or English cottage style. Are those coved ceilings in the living room? Keep the wainscot in the bathroom, but don't spread it into the rest of the house -- it won't work. The fireplace is wonderful and unusual. I agree with the others that a heavier mantel shelf set it off beautifully. You have a charming home as it is. Play up its character rather than trying to turn it into something it isn't....See MoreNeeding paint color advice, as well as suggestions with fireplace
Comments (3)Thank you for the suggestions. As far as the fireplace goes, we have talked about painting the brick or white washing it. we think their is too much contrast with the floor. We have started to look at warmer whites. The current color is more taup like and the trim has some yellow it. We are tryin to get away from the yellowy look. we have looked at natural choice and ballet (Ben Moore) with bohemian lace on the trim. The main living areas on the first floor ( master bed, lr, den and kitchen all have the Saltillo tile, the kitchen cabinets are yellowish/creamy with an antique glaze. the natural choice and the ballet still have a yellow creamy tint to it. Do we keep the walls, trim ano cabinets the same color and use more of a white lIke bohemian lace?...See MoreNew (to us) Home Advice- Paint Colors/Design Thought
Comments (9)So the kitchen could fairly easily have some faux beams like the inspo picture of the kitchen I posted. I would put another faux beam across the end of your kitchen to further accent the look in the kitchen. For the living room, could be a little more complicated due to the space and to really get the look you want but can be simplified to faux beams but not sure if that would be in what you like. So I will post the simple and more complex options. any of the more complex ones should include an architect and specialist in your area that can do the install....See MoreWallpaper? New paint color? Comments (30)I know, you didn't ask about other parts of the room. The photos showing blue paint are nice, but I'd photoshop various transitional rugs. Seems a foundation would be better than wall changes. Soft blue imo is a tad delicate with much white. What about a soft teal, or green?...See Moreshira sobel
