Anyone from Southwest Idaho?
Comments (8)HI fellow, Idahoans! I just read Lizzy's comments and have already written Amy. Lizzy, I can't believe the weather we're having. 88* for the past few days and now it will cool down to 81. Not what May is suppose to be. I hope we don't get a freeze either. My plants are blooming way too soon and the bulbs don't last as long in this heat, me either! LOL Right now my pond guy down the street from me is back in action in my yard and is doing concrete and mason work. He'll continue putting river rock I collected from the Salmon river and various places. But I mainly like to collect the green, turquoise, blue, burgundy, white quartz looking and different rocks with white veining in them. He, my mason and neighbor is putting them on the walls of my waterfall and pools, and making a stream bed with them. They bring special memories to me, especially since the son that helped me gathered much of them died last year at age 15 1/2. My gardens have been my therapy and I have been also working on a Memory Garden in his name and also one of my pond's are dedicated to him with his name also. His name is David. Anyway, I better move on. My mother had a terrible stroke on Tuesday and I saw her for a bit at the St Luke's hospital in Meridian. This time her stroke is very serious and can only be fed through her stomach. My 6 other siblings and my dad need to make some decisions on what to do next. The siblings all live out of state. As she cannot swallow or drink, and her speech is not good either. Anyway, sorry to lay this on you, but I'm stunned myself and in a fog. The doctor said she has had many little strokes for the past year or so which explains her memory failure and Childish behavior. Let me know when you are in the Boise area you two, I'll show you my gardens and ponds. Karalyn...See MoreHAVE: Spring Swap & Iris Garden Tour, Southwest Dallas Co Area
Comments (36)skeered me too! Amy, the swap last year really was fun, but Bobbie is prez of the Ovilla Garden Club this year, so she's too "scheduled" to have one at her home this year. BUT We're having a swap in Ft Worth April 7 (see the thread on this forum). This is the Texas Forum's annual Spring Swap, & it's lots of fun. There're always lots of people & tons of plants & garden things, & the Botanic Gardens are just across the street if you still have the strength to visit them after our "Spring Break" garden frenzy! & the Ovilla Garden Club has one in Ovilla June 2,(there's a thread about it, too) at the City Park. We can trade or sell, as long as we buy the $4 box lunch that they sell to fund their projects. & I know she'd love for you to come take a tour thru her gardens. She gave me permission to post her phone # (it's on the Ovilla thread.) email me at sylviaboardwalk@aol.com if you want more info. I do have some irises, some named, some mysteries, that I'd be happy to bring you. Just let me know....See MoreSouthwest Pilot helps a grieving grand-dad (powerful story)

Comments (6)I had never heard of the Donna Hays Tea Story Royal Doulton large cake stand with glass dome cover so looked it up and was appalled at the price of the dome. BBB has the dome only listed for $59.99 and it doesn't look as if it's tall enough for a 3 layer cake! I have bought several the same for $5. at yard sales! Have now sold them all at a consignment shop for a nice profit. Anchor Hocking and Libbey both make cake domes that are the same but priced lower. I think that a cake under a dome looks very pretty but think about how you will use it. To serve you remove the dome and cut the cake and it's no longer as pretty. If there are leftovers it's better to refrigerate them. I always refrigerate cakes as don't think they would stay fresh in a dome which is why I sold mine. Using the domes in vignettes a couple times a year was not worth storing them the rest of the time....See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
