Light switches causing off center mirror... How to fix.
Comments (6)Things like outlets will go in standard locations and in standard formats unless there are specific instructions to do otherwise. This is essentially an esthetic decision and unfortunately that is almost always going to fall on the homeowner unless you are working with a designer who should pick things like that up. But honestly, as a designer, I've irritated some contractors and electricians who only want to think about putting things exactly where they always go and not where someone else wants them to go. There are regularly threads about this situation related to outlets and switches interfering with backsplash layout as well. Expect to be charged for them to move it or change it to the other style of switch, if they are like most contractors....See MoreEntry mirror: “center at eye level”- still too high?
Comments (88)Working with the two items you have, the mirror and table, I think the height is fine. What is making it look awkward is the fact that you have nothing on the table that can fill the gap between the tabletop and mirror. Try an orchid in a nice planter or basket, it will help to blend the two together, then add a couple of your favorite small tchotckes (don't over do it though, you could even lay two favorite hardback books with bindings facing out), it will be a beautiful greeting to all who see it! You're on the right track!f Life is better because of the beauty we find in it!...See MoreMirror centered on wall or the couch?
Comments (25)Yep, I have gone for the same. Mirror above console and art opposite that, and art above couch. The clock I can move it out if it looks too much. I will update once I start setting up. @Annie Deighnaugh you were right, we were looking for more storage so we went for a sideboard instead. I really wanted that mirror over the table :P @celerygirl I did have a modern mirror in place of the clock, but it just looked too basic so moved it to another room. I have ordered a window mirror for now (need one for the hallway anyways) so will try it out again when I have some art on the walls too. Maybe that might make a difference. @cha tackett thanks for the effort you put into that layout. It looked perfect but the tv console is the deal breaker. There are no electrical points on the opposite wall which doesn't leave me with much options of moving things around. The room isn't really as big as it appears in the pictures which are a bit skewed I think. The carpet covers 60% of the room length for living area and the remaining 40 is the dining, just for perspective. P.S. sorry, I just realised I could tag individual people in the comments. I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone, I have a much better idea now than the naive plan I began with....See MoreDesign dilemma- bathroom light & mirror not centered
Comments (6)What about forgoing light fixture and put in lighted mirrors? Round or oval, as large as would fit might fool the eye. ^^^Or center mirror over sink and add a single pendant on both sides of the window. Or center a mirror over the sink (or fill the whole area from wall to window and hang a pendant light or one sconce on each side of window - maybe like this double sconce: I think these mirrors have two sconces, but show what one on the sides of the windows would look like. I probably wouldn't use this style, however....See Morenester44
