Put a mirror over the couch if you want, and put a painting or poster on the wall by the dr table...it will help visually separate the spaces and make the room feel larger.

Also think about a tall lamp for the end table by the sofa...it too will help visually separate the spaces.

I agree with Annie. Treat as separate spaces. Not knowing what either the art or the mirror look like & their sizes, my vote is art over sofa, mirror over table.

Can you flip the position of the sofa and the end table? What is on the wall opposite the sofa?

Your furniture it nicely arranged as it is. I agree to treat the areas separately and like the idea of a lamp on the end table or else a floor lamp behind the end table to help divide the spaces visually.

Just be sure to have art and mirror large enough to make a statement and be proportionate to the furniture. Some people object to mirrors in rooms that aren't reflecting something worth looking at (like a view out a window). Others will object to a mirror near a table because people don't want to look at themselves or others reflected while the eat. But since the mirror would be to the side of the table and people, it would be fine. I'd probably put the mirror there and art above the sofa - you have such wonderful colors in the sofa and chair, some colorful art would really bring it all together.

Don't go too small and think about the shapes of the 2 pieces...don't have them too similar, like horizontal over the sofa and vertical by the table or even a round mirror might be better:

What is the mirror reflecting? If there is a window opposite, is the view worth reflecting?

I‘d first be sure you are keeping this layout. Had to suggest without seeing other half of room. Have you tried couch and side tables in reverse, green chair by window, so you can move dining table away from wall. Not quite represented below, but couch would be more centered on wall and only need art above and try more length horizontally.

If keeping layout as is, treat as two spaces.

Why a Mirror? Looks like it will be reflecting a wall. What is on that wall? Is it worth seeing twice?

This is the living area and connects to an open plan kitchen which is more towards the dining table hence didn't want to move the dining table away from here.

At the moment I am still planning but I have my eyes on a sunburst accent mirror. And then to add some paintings to add some color to the room.

From most the suggestions I get separating the couch area from the dining would be the best options, preferably with a tall lamp near the side table area. The side table can be moved to the other side.

Don't move your end table. I'd say mirror in dining, if you really want a mirror. Starburst may be too similar to your clock, but would be a nice contrast to art above the sofa. I'd probably ditch the clock and put another nice piece of art above your console.

I'm leaning towards a window mirror over console table, and art over couch and dining.

A question, do you think the clock can go over the TV? Or would it make it too messy?

I think over TV is a good place for that clock. It plays well with shelf unit & will also complement the window mirror you’re considering for over console.

Since the sofa sitters have access to the coffee table, why not place the end table by the lone chair so it's occupant has a table? That would leave room to put the ladder shelf between the sofa and dining room to visually break the two and to marry the brass pieces with the ones on the opposite wall. Then center the sofa table on its wall before hanging art 5" above it. When the opportunity arises, I would get a much larger rug. Compared to the size of the room, that one is a postage stamp. One that allows all the seating to sit entirely on it will help ground the brass.

I would be careful about a mirror in the dining area only because if you've ever seen yourself shoveling food in your mouth, it's not attractive. The mirror being closer to the window can reflect light from there and make the room brighter.

You didn't ask, but I'll mention that, if storage is at a premium for you, then where the console table is would be a great place for a bookcase with doors on the bottom for more storage.

I disagree about the clock over the TV. There’s already a lot happening in that corner area - bookshelves with a lot of items, the jog in the wall, the tv, the curtains, etc. Adding that big clock is just too much. I’d consider mounting the TV on the wall and getting rid of the vase next to the TV.

In fact, I’d really consider moving the bookshelves to another area of the house. You have a lot of nice pieces in this room, and their impact is getting kind of lost because there’s so many decor items. The room needs to “breathe.”

I agree with above. Less is more when it comes to this space.

Hi sorry if I went overboard your solicited advice- I can't help but experiment on re arranging your furniture and float your sofa and dining instead of having most of them up against your walls.

You have an airy open layout, ergo you have lots of options. And floating them would give you a homey, warm feel.

P.S. Besides the clock, you can create a gallery on that wall too. There's a side table next to that accent chair, and you put a table lamp or perhaps an arc lamp like suggested by sofa.

I would go with modern mirror instead window one. All your living room is modern style, so go with it.

Yep, I have gone for the same. Mirror above console and art opposite that, and art above couch. The clock I can move it out if it looks too much. I will update once I start setting up.

@Annie Deighnaugh you were right, we were looking for more storage so we went for a sideboard instead. I really wanted that mirror over the table :P

@Celery. Visualization, Rendering images I did have a modern mirror in place of the clock, but it just looked too basic so moved it to another room. I have ordered a window mirror for now (need one for the hallway anyways) so will try it out again when I have some art on the walls too. Maybe that might make a difference.

@cha tackett thanks for the effort you put into that layout. It looked perfect but the tv console is the deal breaker. There are no electrical points on the opposite wall which doesn't leave me with much options of moving things around. The room isn't really as big as it appears in the pictures which are a bit skewed I think. The carpet covers 60% of the room length for living area and the remaining 40 is the dining, just for perspective.

P.S. sorry, I just realised I could tag individual people in the comments. I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone, I have a much better idea now than the naive plan I began with.
