cast iron and glass cooktop

I am having to replace my old gas range, and I am seriously looking at going to electric.

The reasons are varied and have to do with changes that need to be made and the high charge for installation of a new gas range. We still have the electrical hookup for the range that was original to the house from teh late 80s

I wont bore you with the details, but there are obstacles, including at least $500 worth of permits and charges just to replace an already existing installation.

When we were young we just moved our gas appliances with us and when we got to the new place, we just pulled out an adjustble wrench and hooked them up and that was that. I am not sure how all of that changed, but it did.

I cook almost exculsively with cast iron, everday of my life.

The gurus of the internet do assure that cast iron can be used on the glass top, with caution. My question to myself is to ask if I can actually exercise such precautions. I am so accustomed to just swinging these things around in such a causal manner. Can I change?

Would anyone care to share thier experience with heavy cast iron on glass top?

All of the better electric ranges have the glass top.

One thing that is very important to me, whether gas or electric is that it have a double oven. I rarely ever use the lower big oven on my current on at all. Some of those single ovens are so huge! I have no need for an oven of that capacity. What a waste of heated space for those giant ovens!

Anyone want to share thier opinion or experience? I am just not sure that I can change my habits and not have it smashed right away.
