Induction Ranges in U.S.
Comments (16)The induction range at Sears is made by Electrolux. It looks great and we are considering it but our concern is that it is the first of it's kind in this pricerange and we wonder what other companies will have soon. The induction elements are very close together so we are going to do a "pots and pans" test at the store to see if it will be as akward as it looks. My other concern is that the convection oven element is only 350 whereas other units have 2500. I have never used convection so don't know if it matters....See MoreInstalling and Adjusting European-Style Cabinet Hinges
Comments (2)You're missing a few things off your list. 1. Blum drill jig (about 200 plus dollars. Accurately drills all three holes in seconds) 2. A tape measure (there's enough up and down adjustment in those hinges to calculate and install the base plate without holding up the door using #3. 3. Small Blum drilling template for position of base plate screws. 4. Beer is to be consumed after job is complete and you are admiring your work....See MoreDo you have European style inset cabinets?
Comments (21)Our last kitchen was made in England, was inset with exposed hinges. It was the unfitted look - pieces looked like furniture. 1 stain color, 3 paint colors and 3 counter materials. The island, for example, came over as one piece and we added the antique pine counter. The hutches came over as two pieces. The ends are finished, so technically either could be used in the DR or breakfast room and stand alone. I had a walk-in pantry for food storage and small appliances. No food was stored in the kitchen (other than fridge/freezer). I did not miss any space by not having traditional uppers or inset cabinets. At the time, I had a hard time finding a local cabinetmaker that wasn't astronomical. It was less expensive to have made in England and shipped, and I got exactly what I wanted. Our new kitchen is another English style kitchen based on Humphrey Munson kitchens, but made locally (Alabama). It is the only door style this cabinetmaker does. Inset doors with hidden hinges. 1 paint color, 1 counter material. We only moved a month ago, and the walk through pantry hasn't been built out yet, but I still don't miss traditional uppers, the pantry wall stores all the food and the last door hides a few often used appliances on a counter with drawers below. I am opting to only build-out one wall of the walk-thru pantry, and store seldom used trays, large roasting pans and other items there. Good luck with your kitchen. I look forward to seeing your project progress....See MoreShould interior design style match the home's achitectural style?
Comments (26)I would say colonial style and scandi go well together. I disagree strongly that you should keep to the original style of the house. However, as a designer, I would say different ideas look better together if they share some similar characteristics or are related - as colonial and scandi are. I think there some degree of lightness and openess in both style, turned wood in both scandi and colonial furniture, although lighter wood and white in scandi. With a keen eye and careful research, two styles that share some common denominators can always work; otherwise you risk looking like a museum otherwise. I would not mix tudor and scandi for instance or high victorian english, as they are diametrically opposed, but if they share components, go ahead....See MoreBill S.
