Doors doors doors! Looking for a contemporary style
Comments (16)I've received several emails asking for information about where I bought my doors, but I can't respond directly because the posters do not have their emails enabled through GardenWeb. Here is additional information: We purchased all of our doors and casings except for our front door through Viking Door in San Jose. It's the company that our general contractor uses, so it was easy to coordinate everything with them. We bought the front door and all windows ourselves from Greenhouses Etc in San Jose - it's a very small shop and their prices are good. Greenhouses, ETC 1085 S De Anza Blvd. San Jose, CA 95129 408-446-1224...See MoreAnyone have Lever Style Doorknobs in your Interior Doors
Comments (36)I had the upstairs knobs changed to levers a couple weeks ago and I love them! Changed the hinges to match (orb). I think they make the entire second floor hallway (surrounded by 5 doors) look so much better, and they are easy to use...no problems. Laschnit, I had Kwikset levers installed that I purchased at HD. I think they look and feel super, and my handyman said they were easy-peasy to install. They are still fairly pricey, (though I know not close to Baldwin's prices)as the bill adds up when you go from door to door! So worth it, though. I'll change out the downstairs after I re-do the powder room and paint a couple of doors. HD had Baldwin on display, but I didn't think they looked any better than the ones I bought. I couldn't justify the cost differential. In fact, I liked the way the Kwikset looked more than the orb Baldwin options....See MoreSwapping out white slab doors for new contemporary style doors
Comments (7)After talking to several realtors around my area, decided to cancel my orders and go with basically home improvement store items. I will be order $200 translucent door slabs and much cheaper Baldwin $40-$150 lock sets. Why? Buyers at my home's price range really could care less about quality doors and hardware. I guess $2 million homes are not looked upon like I thought they would be now a days. Why spend when you don't need to? Anyways, I was under a different mindset then what is reality in terms of doors and lock sets. People really do not care and not a important selling point at all. New is new and that about it!...See MoreDo you have European style inset cabinets?
Comments (21)Our last kitchen was made in England, was inset with exposed hinges. It was the unfitted look - pieces looked like furniture. 1 stain color, 3 paint colors and 3 counter materials. The island, for example, came over as one piece and we added the antique pine counter. The hutches came over as two pieces. The ends are finished, so technically either could be used in the DR or breakfast room and stand alone. I had a walk-in pantry for food storage and small appliances. No food was stored in the kitchen (other than fridge/freezer). I did not miss any space by not having traditional uppers or inset cabinets. At the time, I had a hard time finding a local cabinetmaker that wasn't astronomical. It was less expensive to have made in England and shipped, and I got exactly what I wanted. Our new kitchen is another English style kitchen based on Humphrey Munson kitchens, but made locally (Alabama). It is the only door style this cabinetmaker does. Inset doors with hidden hinges. 1 paint color, 1 counter material. We only moved a month ago, and the walk through pantry hasn't been built out yet, but I still don't miss traditional uppers, the pantry wall stores all the food and the last door hides a few often used appliances on a counter with drawers below. I am opting to only build-out one wall of the walk-thru pantry, and store seldom used trays, large roasting pans and other items there. Good luck with your kitchen. I look forward to seeing your project progress....See MoreBill S.
