Comments (5)Florida's ban is lifted. They claimed canker is not carried by fruit. Funny thing, HLB is carried by seed and is a greater threat to their citrus than canker (their words] and they want to give to Texas and California. Saw Fl fruit in Houston markets already. About container g.f. Can you get a golden g.f.? These are a hybrid of an orange or mandarin, another chance seedling. They grow uright and are low in bitterness very sweet, very cold hardy, and bear heavy every year. I have two in the ground and everyone wants me to give them my whole harvest. The only negative is seeds, but we eat them with a soon and just dig in around the seeds. The inside is soft like a mandarin not crunchy like a g.f. and a little orangy flavor but still g.f. like. Also early, almost like a satsuma. And the size is of a Rio Red, about 1.5 x ruby red. Texas is quarintined due to syllids. [My key to right of "o" quit. I'll use a *] I think a guy in the Southeast is selling them. Ned Rahm I believe. Maybe *lantfolks nursery? Got to get this thing fixed next week, sorry guys. Tangerine X tangelo hybrids work for me. Comments (17)Kinglerch, SH2 corns will cross-pollinate with every other corn plant grown, so you can't have two pollinating in your garden at the same time. In fact, many community gardens have banned their members from growing SH2 types because they will cross-pollinate (and ruin) every other corn grown in the community garden. In theory, you can grow two or more SH2 corns in the same garden in the same year, but it is hard to do it successfully and it requires that the weather be cooperative too. You have to time the plantings so the two (or more) varieties are NOT pollinating at the same time, because they can cross-pollinate each other. Timing of the plantings means more than just planting one SH2 corn, waiting 2 to 4 weeks, and then planting another SH2 corn. Why? Because the earlier planting is done when both soil and air temps. are cooler, so the corn germinates more slowly and then grows more slowly as well. When you plant the second SH2 corn, it is planted in warmer air and soil temps., so it will germinate more quickly and also grow more quickly as well. So, often the second planting "catches up" with the first and they pollinate at exactly the same time despite your best efforts to prevent that from happening. You can sometimes get around that by learning about heat units in relation to corn production and then timing your corn plantings based on heat units. That is how commercial corn growers do it. You can sometimes plant two SH2 corn varieties by planting them at least 250' from each other, which is possible if you have acreage. You can sometimes plant two SH2 corn varieties and NOT have cross-pollination if you plant a barrier crop between them. It has to be something big and thick like sunflowers or amaranth or something similar. With careful timing of the fall planting, you can get 2 SH2 corn crops in the same year without cross-pollination by planting one in March-April for harvest in June or early July and then planting the second type in late July to mid-August for harvest in October or November. That works for me here in zone 7B. Dawn...See MoreGarden Show Tomorrow in the Portland area!

Comments (44)I saw this this morning. I know some will refuse to view it because of the source (eyeroll) but is it a very well thought out opinion. IMO Even if you believe the worst is happening at our border, the parents and the children are being well cared for. They are being clothed, fed three meals a day, and provided housing with indoor plumbing and exercise facilities. They have medical care and they are safe from drug dealers and gangs. My God, this is the United States of America. To accuse any American of acting in the same manner Nazis treated Jews and Gays and other hated groups is beyond the pale. Just stop it. People who invoke “Nazis” as it relates to the present day demean themselves and our country as a whole. Take a deep breath. Remember we live in the U.S.A. and be thankful and be gracious to the people with whom you disagree and then they will be gracious to you. Then vote when you have a chance for people who support your positions. That is how we settle our disagreements in this republic https://townhall.com/columnists/brucebialosky/2018/07/01/stop-whining-about-discord-when-you-are-causing-the-discord-n2495394?utm_source=thdaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&newsletterad=...See More- 3 years ago
