Remote control for light switch

I'm not looking for a Smart device (no Alexa, Siri, whatever), just an old-fashioned remote control that will operate a dimmer light switch. Does such a thing exist?

Lutron Caseta switches and Pico remotes will work without any network, wifi connection, or app.

We have wireless remote controls in the den, living room, office, and guest bedroom. Those in the guest bedroom (on either side of the queen sized bed), also control the ceiling fan...as does the remote in the office.

The master bedroom device, which sits on my end table, and plugs into the wall, can control all lights in the bedroom wing, including hallways, the master bedroom ceiling fan, and master bathroom vent fan.

Both kinds of remote controls are by Logitech. The entire system is also controlled by the Lutron app, on my iPhone and iPad. The app controls all lights…including front and back porches, the garage (inside and out), laundry, kitchen, etc., etc.

Our light switch was run to the lanai by the sliding door which is perfect. My PB's crappy electrician was planning to run a conduit along the wall so the box would stick out and there was no way that was going to happen, so before he did the final wiring, my DH went into the attic and ran the wires down inside the block wall and then we chiseled out a hole in the concrete for the box to fit inside. So it looks built in. The spa jet pump switch is also there, which is stupid, because now we almost never use it. We're all manual, so all the other spa settings are at the pool equipment except the jet pump which requires a trip back to the lanai. If I had a light remote, I'd have to establish a shelf or cubby to keep it so it wouldn't get lost, so then why not just have a switch on the wall?

Ceiling mounted light in bedroom or just lamps

We actually lived for years with a ceiling light that not only reminded us unpleasantly whenever we forgot to turn it off before hopping in bed, but which also failed to put adequate light where we did need it. No. We fixed that problem in this house. No unnecessary ceiling clutter. No wincing eye abuse. Now, as a vehicle for crystals or other mobile art, that would be different. OTOH, since we like to read and sometimes just relax and chat in bed, bedside lamps, pretty ones of course, are absolutely necessary to us. BTW, although there are lamps in a couple other places, we did connect the wall switch to my husband's side so it could be turned off from bed. Simple, works great, definitely recommend it.

Ceiling fan with light and remote. What does wall switch do?

The wall switch will turn on the fan. If the light is on, the light will come up. It does not separate control the light and the fan. I assume you are looking at a simple on and off switch. Technically, it will just send power to the fan and what ever the last setting the fan was left on is what you will see. Then use the remote to adjust lighting and fan speed. This is my configuration. Mainly because the fan switch is at the entrance to a room and I may want to change the speed while sitting in bed or sitting on the couch and don't want to go to the switch. Using a light switch to control power is a very common approach to installing a fan with a remote. Good luck!

I used one of these so I could turn on my garage lights from the house. I used a wall-mount kit that surface mounted the remote switch at the house end so that it looks like a standard wall switch. https://www.casetawireless.com/ The other "half" of the system replaced the existing wired wall switch. IIRC I picked it up at Home Depot Bruce

Here’s a pic of the plug in remote on my night table. It can be programmed to control more of the house. However, if I want to turn off the any of the lights in the kitchen, or basement, (for instance), I just use the Lutron app.

^^ Wow, that's quite a set-up darbuka! I'll check out the Lutron. good to know don't need to use an app to work it.

ETA: I ordered a Caseta dimmer and the Pico remote, hopefully it's what DH is looking for.
