Need urgent help with floor color

We are replacing our LVP with a high end engineered wood. Our style is “loose transitional” - some mid century, some traditional.

We are trying to decide between two colors. Pics of the colors are attached but really comes down to light versus dark. Our floor is currently very similar to the darker color. My worry with going with the light is the thought that the darker flooring we have is tying together our mishmash style.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you!!

I agreed to have our floor tile installed before the cabinets are installed. Is this a good idea? It's not a BAD idea. It can be done either way-- tile first, or cabinets first. I've done it both ways, and personally, I like the tile going in first because it gives a much cleaner look. But either way can be done. In the meantime, I've been wondering if I want the tile to go all the way to the walls. It will boost everything up higher No it won't, because if the cabinets go in first, your carpenter will most likely put plywood under the cabinets to account for that height difference. otherwise, you'll have big problems installing a dishwasher, trash compactor, or any other "under countertop" appliance you may have. I don't understand why that is an issue. I don't either. I'll agree that it's not going to hurt anything if the tile under the cabinets isn't grouted. But it SHOULD be grouted, and if he's doing this just to rush it, I'd be STANDING on the brakes. Makes me wonder what else he's rushing. Also, just because the cabinets are being delivered on thursday doesn't mean they have to be installed right away. They can be set off to the side while the grout sets up, and then installed starting first thing friday morning. In fact, it'd probably be better that way, because then the carpenters will have all day to work on them, instead of getting started on them part way into the day. I'd be putting my foot down and demanding either the tile be grouted first, or the cabinets go in before the tile.

Ooh, i don't usually like granite, but that granite, with that vanity and those floors...fabulous! You have good taste! Sorry that ganite didn't work! Your inspiration photo has white solid surface counter of some kind...could be silestone, or corian. I think that would look good too if you went just a little warmer than white white. You say you've got white tiles in the shower so white countertops could work? Looks like you've used a lightish gray grout on the floor, and I think that color of grey for the walls could be really nice. I'm not very good at recommending specific paint colors, but, I know that many folks that have selected grey rave about Ellen Kennon's Gustavian grey. You can try searching for Ellen Kennon on the web and learn more about her full spectrum paint. I think she has some rooms that have been painted Gustavian Grey on her site. Ellen also offer free color consultatin via phone, if you buy her paint. Keep us posted and thanks for the pics!

I would make sample boards of colors you like that you can move around in your space and your light. Trade winds might look really blue in your space. I see your cabinetry as very warm like your current paint, while the gray furniture as cool. For that reason, I like the Accessible beige suggestion. Consider going neutral with more color in smaller space like powder room?

Another vote for darker. You need the contrast sgainst your light csbinets, countertop and furniture. the lighter one would give the impression of blah beige.

That sample on the left is horrible with real yellow ugly undertones so for sure dark.

Why only two samples? Why such opposit visions? I prefer a light floor but agree the chosen sample is both yellow and muddy. The brown sample is too dark for me but that is personal taste. Of all the manufacturers of wood flooring how did you end up with these two?

I agree with Hallett. The color of your existing floor is perfect. Of the two samples you are showing the darker one is better, but medium brown is the best choice if you want to avoid being trendy.

The darker color is the winner in my book. Why is the sample so small though? I would not suggest making a decision on a very small piece of flooring. For Engineered flooring also make sure you have at least a 4mm wear layer. Baltic Birch ply underneath is also a good sign of quality. Make sure the lengths are acceptable to you as well. You don't want to get a bunch of 1', 2', or 3' shorts. Look for a mix up to at least 9' or 10' in length.

Just wondering why you are replacing the current floor. It looks pretty darn good to me.

I don't love either of your samples.

I would also never make a selection based on that tiny sample. Bring more samples home. Once you have narrowed it down to 2 colors, you should then order a box of each and lay them out in your home.

Your flooring supplier should place a hold on enough flooring from each color, so that when you pick the box you like best, you are actually getting the same lot # for the whole order. Yes, you won't be able to return the box you rejected, but that is a small cost, compared to ordering and installing a whole house of new floors and realizing that you hate it and it looked nothing like the tiny sample you had used to pick the floor.

Also be aware that samples and sample boards can be old and not representative of current dye lots, which is why you should order a full box from the dye lot that is currently available.

All of those issues mnetioned I usually try to get a box of the flooring to test .
