Wood-look porcelain tile or Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring?
Comments (53)I vote for floating, click, wood look, luxury vinyl plank. I especially like the style with knots and chatter marks. Lay it throughout the whole house, on the diagonal, with no thresh holds. That's what I did. I can clean the entire house in approximately five minutes with an electric leaf blower. Porcelain tile is more durable however it is more expensive to buy, more expensive to install, and more expensive to uninstall. Also, some tile is extremely slippery when wet whereas wood grain LVP is not slippery at all. Five years later I am happier than ever I chose grey driftwood luxury vinyl plank for a house with dogs, kids, beach sand, and lots of wet feet. If the house gets inundated from storm surge and ocean water gets inside, I can unclick the LVP, clean and dry the subfloor, and then reinstall the same LVP and it will look as good as new....See Morerug pad on luxury vinyl planks

Comments (65)Another thing to consider when looking at the engineered floors is plank length. I just realized why I didn't like some of the photos I saw ... they had too many short pieces which gives the floor a choppy look and to me, it looks too much like a tile effect. The Uptown Floors suggested above sound great, and I will look at them more closely, but they still have "shorter" board (12" to 8 ft). I am looking at another company with board lengths from 3 ft to 12 ft. Those longer boards make a big difference in the overall look in a larger open floor plan. The longer boards do cost more, so I need to do some more comparisons and value of spending more for a more pleasing look. Their other specs are mostly similar. I think floors are going to be my hardest decision!...See Morerug pad for luxury vinyl plank?
Comments (9)Thank you Anne I appreciate the info. A rug in our dining room is necessary because we have window cornices that my dad made me so I chose not to have curtains because I have dogs and in our last house- the curtains got destroyed. So we really don’t have a way to “dress up” the dining room other than some wall decor and a nice rug to help fill the room if that makes sense. Also- our LVP scratches so easy it’s awful! Even with felt pads under our dining room chairs when I pull the chairs in and out our floor would scratch horribly! Especially if you’re sitting on them and slide out like most people do... I wasn’t looking for a rug too expensive and I also was having a super hard time finding a rug that was the colors/style I was looking for (black and tan) and I happened to find the PERFECT one which is cheap polypropylene (unfortunately) I’m hoping it lasts a bit longer than 2-3 years because our dining room never really even gets used to be honest. It’s just there for show at this point. LOL!...See MoreMichelle Linden
