Comments (150)HOLY SMOKES! I CAN POST TODAY! Merry Christmas Eve! From highalttransplant, I got a wonderful tree ornament made from her son (I think) which is now hanging on the tree. How thoughtful! She also sent an amazing amount of seeds including black hungarian pepper, cascabella pepper, patio red marconi pepper, sweet pickle pepper, chinese giant pepper, cherokee chocolate tomato, broadleaf sage, and Extra Curled Dwarf Parsley. I cannot thank you enough. Those are all new to me so I am very excited to get these planted. Thank you very much for your generosity and the wonderful new ornament/card. From bumblebee1, I got a great Santa card with garlic chives, calabrese broccoli, celery, and sparkler radish seeds. Thank you very very much - I am new to several of those and can't wait to get them started! From darlyn58, I got this old fashioned printed card with a horse pulling a trailer. Brings me back to the good ol' days. She also sent the most generous amount of danvers half long carrots. WOW. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!...See MoreAt Last Rose performance.
Comments (211)Hi Jackie and Jim1961. I'm just reading the posts now. Where I live on Vancouver Island we see a bit more summer rain than you do Jackie, but not much and this has been getting drier each year. Last summer we had one day each of low to moderate rain in May, June, July, and August. I don't have an in-ground watering system, plus I garden in very fast draining soil. Watering becomes too much as the season progresses. To answer the question as to why the snow, this has to do with living on an island that is strongly affected by the gulf stream ocean currents and moisture than comes over from the Hawaiian Islands called the 'Pineapple Express'. Heavy moisture laden air comes our way. Unfortunately if that moisture hits a 'Polar Express' air current coming down from the Arctic, up in the atmosphere the water turns into snow and dumps the snow on us in a huge pile all at once. You would be too far south to be affected by Polar Vortex air as a general rule. We have a warm climate here so the snow doesn't hang around more than a week or two. But the damage is done as soon as that extremely heavy snow falls onto the ground. Inadequate snow removal by local municipalities adds to the mass confusion. Roads are blocked for days. Further problems come from trees falling on roads and powerlines. The thing is, some winters we get no snow at all. So local governing bodies rationalize that winters on going will also not have snow, and don't budget properly for snow removal. So when the next snowfall hits and they always do, there is skimpy snow removal, road sanding and salting and so on. The ostrich response....See MoreDaylily seedlings 2023
Comments (53)Thank you for the encouragement, Nancy. Watching your posts and seeing all the toothy seedlings you've created is inspiration. I've crossed over to the 'toothy side'....and have a few seedlings. So much for focusing! LOL. I started buying them to hybridize and sell seeds on the Lily Auction but fell in love with them and grew out a few crosses myself. I haven't seen the fruits of my labor yet but I believe some will bloom this summer. Sherry, I think I will keep a list of friends here who might want my reject seedlings. I will feel better if someone 'adopts' them. I will keep you all updated with a post in late summer and see if there are any 'takers'. I also think it will be fun to see what they will do in other parts of the country....See Moreartinnature
