thank you all! Sorry for the delay in getting back. DH had two surgeries back to back on tuesday and wednesday, very hectic around here. Cindyloo... I thought about painting it too. but it is such a huge undertaking. Our master bedroom trim was painted white before we bought the house. But there is so much trim and crown molding... cangelmd... thank yoU! I am gong to run to Lowes and Ben Moore tomorrow and get some color charts. sloyd.. thanks for the bungalow site. I had not thought of that!great idea. The olive greens i have now do look good. I am keeping them in the downstairs rooms. They do not need repainting. But i wanted something different, just need a change. brittone2.. the carpet on the stairs and all upstairs is an old ugly Mauve. ugh! I have ripped it up in two rooms. we are going to replace with laminate. I have two big dogs, and want no more carpet. Family Room has a greyish/beige berber carpet. Not bad, just not good either. powermuffin... thank you for that idea! I am going to do just that. I am in no great hurry. I have the carpet stripped and furniture moved out of one room, it had been a den and now will be a guest bedroom. Of course all the junk from there has been piled in other rooms but it is upstairs so i can hide it away for a while. I like the idea of the sample pots. Paint has gotten so expensive. I picked up a gallon to touch up the trim on the deck and it was 38 dollars!

We need to choose wall and trim colors for our upper-floor master bedroom and our main floor living room, dining room, and hallway. I’m partial to soft whites with a faint peachy undertone that veers more toward a bit of pink, but not yellow. The current master bedroom color (see photos) looks beautifully peachy at some times of the day, but too pink at other times. We think we like Benjamin Moore Apricot Ice for the master bedroom (the sample on the right in the attached photos). We’re leaning toward Sugar Cookie (on the left in the photos) for the living and dining rooms, and maybe the hallway. Because we’ll be hanging art in the rooms on the main floor, it’s important that they be more neutral. We have cherry and oak furniture. As shown in the photos, the master bedroom has an oak floor. What do you think? What wall color(s) would you recommend? And what trim color would you recommend? We’d like to use the same trim color throughout the house (except for our white kitchen and bath, where trim will be painted to match the cabinet trim). We’d like it to softly complement rather than contrast with the wall color. Would Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace or maybe Mayonnaise be suitable for the trim? As far as lighting goes, the master bedroom has north and west exposure. We keep the cellular blinds, which allow in some light, closed most of the time. Like the adjoining newly-remodeled master bathroom, it has 3K Kelvin lighting (dimmable, recessed). The photos were taken this evening with those lights on, with and without flash. The living room, dining room, and hallway have south, west, and north exposure, and traditional incandescent lighting. The hallway and dining room adjoin the newly-remodeled white kitchen, which has 3K Kelvin lighting (dimmable, recessed). I’ve already noticed quite a contrast between the warm hallway light and our 3K Kelvin kitchen light. Once our dimmers are installed (not in yet because we’re still deciding on our backsplash) we hope it will be less stark. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I have not forgotten about this thread but some renovations have started so everything is chaos at the moment and it took me a while to get some measurements as requested. going to repost the pics from above and then reference as I provide measurements.. So again, these photos were essentially taken from the same spot..one facing the kitchen and one facing the living room. So in the bottom photo, I am basically standing in front of the first door panel (sliding door to my left). That red sox hanging lamp is going away and will not be replaced with any hanging light...the end of the island will be used in place of the small pub table and the island extends basically as far into the room as the start of the slider. The back of the couch (to the camera with a sofa table behind it) are lined up with the other side of the sliding doors (77" away) So working from that point...the sliders are 77" wide, then there is 50.5" of wall space (this is what you see at the left edge of the bottom photo). The windows are 73.5" wide, then 31" of wall into the corner. Working across the fireplace wall there is 44" of space (wall and window) to the left of the fireplaces and 48" to the right. The fireplace surround is 63" high by 79.5" wide. Then coming back up the other wall there is 31" of wall space from the corner to the french doors (which open to the play room or formal living room...depending on the day). Those french doors are 80" wide and then there is 112" of space including that little bit of white wall that you see, then a door to the basement, then a 24" closet door. After the two doors (which are right next to each other) you have a hallway opening and the wall oven cabinet seen on the left side of the top photo is on the far side of that hallway. whew! Even though I thought the meadow color was too light (and pastelly) for the cabinets, I could see where a lighter tone like you suggested for the trim in the room (presumably with a similar antique white color for the walls) might work. I agree that the chair rail is probably a no-go. Currently the floor of the kitchen is some vinyl tile junk....these floors run all the way across in front of the sliding doors and up to the back of the couch (you can sort of see the edge of the dark floors at the bottom right of the photo above) With the remodel we will extend the hardwoods through the kitchen. With the two spaces more connected by the continuous flooring, and no longer having a hanging light in the middle of that space in front of the sliding doors, and not needing a little table there, we were thinking our living space could maybe extend back a little bit further into the space in front of the dead panel (sliding door half that doesnt slide).... Keep the input coming!

Yes we went with a lighter cream color in the main bed and bath. It took some getting use to, and honestly reminded me of a patagonia fleece with the darker color on the edge and lighter as the main body. The change in the brightness room was fantastic. We then painted the rest of house anew gray (because we were selling). It wasnt my favorite and would have gone with a warmer gray if i were to paint gray again. I might honestly look at painting the walls the same color as the trim to make it a fresh and just add color other places.
