Handy Dandy Hints for Potted Roses
Comments (22)So, Ann-I was wondering if you were the only American keeping a pet wasp in the house to eat the spider mites but there must be more. And drying their little wings? Just goes to show you nothing keeps a good rosarian down, except when you're pruning. These are the times that try men's souls. February, oh, February. Snowed hard all morning but the sun came out this afternoon and it rose to forty. One trudges through the dog slopping days like a bear disturbed during hybernation. I think the ancestors had it right. Chop the wood, kill a beef, hens in the freezer. Then go to bed for the winter. Out at the ranch, the wood pile was as high as the house. The house smelled like chicken feathers all fall. It was awful. Everything canned, killed, frozen, chopped, stuff done, a three hour work day ensued. Uncles, grammaws, grandpas snoozed all afternoon by the woodstove. We had one rule: "Stay away from the creek!" Off I'd go, down the creek, listening to the ice crunch beneath my feet, choosing the thick parts and looking at the beautiful animal tracks. Crunch, crunch, crunch. Campanula, that's a good idea about the fan. Everything is on a water fast, now. Treebarb, they came in the mail, I don't remember when. I haven't been checking the dirt that deep but now I will. I'm pretty sure they're spider mites. They make webs and drive around like a speedway. I tried every insecticide, fly spray, soapy water, now I'm using horticultural oil. Blush Damask and Abe Darby are history now but the rest are bumbling through....See MoreNeed help from handy people or folks w/ handy spouse (Katkin)
Comments (17)Unfortunately my hubby isn't too handy and I'm not at all. Thanks for all of the info. I know that it can be done. We have a handy neighbor. I didn't want to ask if it was an impossible feat. I was hoping to be able to buy the whole kit and kaboodle. Isn't it just so pretty. I've already bought two roses to crawl through the fence. 1st things first right? I will get all of the info on here later. There are already three posts, one needs to be replaced. Behind it now are just large stepping stones, easily moved. It's the measurements that I don't have and hubby is itching to go car shopping. I'll be back later. Thanks for all of your help. Comments (38)OK ... well now I'm scared ... I sure hope you like it or I'll feel bad. Shaklee does have a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if not, I'm sure you can get a refund. I'll enjoy getting your opinion (FWIW). I'm sure there are people in any multi level company that make things a little weird but Roger is such a great guy I don't even think about it. His philosophy was why should he make the Wal-Marts and the Targets richer when he could pay individual people. He says there is a lot of misconception about the business of multi level marketing (which is different than a pyramid scheme). Unfortunately it's a big battle to get that message across to people because if you feel that way about it you're not likely to even want more information about it. Anyway, to put more legitimacy on the products themselves (which is what matters to me) I can tell you a few more things about the company's products: - "In an interview with Barbara Walters prior to his inauguration, President Barack Obama vowed to "green" the White House, including evaluating the mansion's energy efficiency and turning the lawn into an organic garden. In addition, to protect his oldest daughter Malia from asthma attacks, the President said he would select a natural, toxin-free line of cleaning products for The White House staff to use. Shaklee CEO Roger Barnett announced that The White House and the Vice President's residence (known as The Admiral's House) are now using the Shaklee Get Clean product line." - Shaklee starts providing NASA with a customized rehydration beverage for use by Shuttle astronauts in 1993 and its use continues today - "At Shaklee, we don't just stand behind our products we stand behind the people who use them. For 30 years our products have powered some of the most elite athletes in the world, including the Vancouver Games medal-winning U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding." http://athletes.shaklee.com/us/en/ - sponsorship of three North Pole expeditions to measure the impact of global warming - Shaklee cleaning products are used on board Jacques Cousteau's research vessels I think you may receive the new version of the fabric softener (not yet here in Canada). I think mine does a good job so I hope the new version is even better. "Now you can make that next load of laundry silky soft and clean-smelling with new, improved Get Clean Soft Fabric Concentrate. A special plant-based softener adds the cozy goodness your family will love and leaves clothes virtually static free." Improved performance, just as effective as Snuggle and Suavitel in softness and static reduction. Let me know if your bottle indicates it's new & improved....See MoreAm I as crazy as my DH thinks I am? LR quandry.
Comments (32)I have not scheduled surgery yet and am ignoring the suggestion of having them both done at once. When I was a newly graduated RN I worked ortho for a year ( some disasters but hips have come along way) and my mom had a horrible hip replacement outcome, so I am putting it off for as long as I can. Don't wait so long you are too out of shape ... it's best done while you are still reasonably spry with muscle strength left for rehab instead of totally crippled and weak. And before you have wrecked the surrounding support muscles and tendons compensating for the pain and lack of mobility. (SO has a prosthetic knee, his brother has 2 of them, and another brother has a hip replacement he loves). Yes, it's come a LONG ways, even using 3-d imaging and custom manufacture of the prosthetics if needed. They can build a copy of the joint, figure out exactly how things need to be altered and dry-fit the prosthesis without ever lifting a scalpel....See Moresalonva
