Comments (28)Hi Karen B, My Greenhouse is holding up well and has kept my plants at a safe temperature. I found condensation on the walls of my greenhouse today. I opened 2 of the windows for a few hours and wiped down as much of the wall area as I could safely reach. Tomorrow I need to open the windows for a longer time to get the rest of the moisture to evaporate. We have had several days of snow, rain and hail. Snow doesnÂt usually stick for long, however the red mountains surrounding the town have turned white. January is the coldest month and last year during the infamous California Freeze we had several inches of snow that stayed on the ground for a few days. I like my new home; it required a lot of work (new flooring, new carpeting, thermal blinds, appliances, light fixtures, a new storage shed, paint and whatnot) to make it presentable. Once I recover financially, it will be time to terraform the yard. When you move to a different climate, you have to learn to garden all over again. One example; I have a thing for morning glories and this year mine were all killed by hot dry winds. I found by observing a patch of wild morning glories on a vacant lot that I should have waited till the monsoon started. This is several months later than I was used to planting them in California. A California Poppy volunteered in my yard in July, which is much later than their peak in California. Hi Karen R, I live in Sedona Arizona. I moved here a year ago in November from San Juan Capistrano. IÂve lived most of my life in the subtropics (California and Florida), so the climate change has been a trip. I understand very well how horrified you were by the change in climate. Plants which were common and boring in California are now precious reminders of home and IÂm considering which ones I can manage to grow here. I moved here for family reasons, so picking up and leaving isnÂt really an option. My neighbors tell me last winter was the coldest winter they remember and last summer was the hottest they remember. This year is a La Niña year, which usually means a colder and dryer winter than average. The effects of La Niña seem to be more variable for California, so I donÂt know what it will mean for you. Sedona is beautiful and has a lot to recommend it, so I will learn to deal with the climate issue. Needless to say, IÂm a big fan of global warming! For me it would mean warmer winters and an earlier start to the summer monsoon, which causes the summer days to be more temperate. Philip PS: Bill, hope you have a speedy recovery from your surgery. IÂve been there and know the only good part is the drugs!...See MoreHappy New Year, Cold cold weather and kitchen pet peeves..
Comments (21)CAthy, I'm happy as long as the tank heater is keeping up, I HATE chopping ice from the tank. Actually, chopping it isn't the bad part, it's dipping the ice chunks out with a hay fork, I always get wet, and it's cold. Ugh. Hate that..... Wind chill factors of 20 to 30 below zero ought to tell me, I've made a wooden cover for the stock tank with a hole just big enough for the animals to put their heads through, I'm hoping it helps, at least enough to keep the tank unfrozen. We set a bale this afternoon, a big round bale will last 3-4 days, so hopefully it'll last until Wednesday morning, when it breaks a little and will be back up to a high of 17, and no below zero temps. I can do everything else manually, but the tractor doesn't always want to start when it's that cold and I need the tractor to move those big bales. As for school, they will probably not have school Monday or Tuesday, we have so many rural students that ride busses and it's just not safe to have small children out in that weather. When it hits zero they are not allowed to go outside for recess and when it's colder, they eventually give up and close school. Annie...See MoreHappy Holidays!!

I'll post it as it was sent and let you decide whether or not you find this funny: Politically Correct Holiday Greeting: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. In addition, please also accept our best wishes for a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make this country great (not to imply that this country is necessarily greater than any other country or area of choice), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual orientation of the wishers. This wish is limited to the customary and usual good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first. "Holiday " is not intended to, nor shall it be considered, limited to the usual Judeo-Christian celebrations or observances, or to such activities of any organized or ad hoc religious community, group, individual or belief (or lack thereof). Note: By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher at any time, for any reason or for no reason at all. This greeting is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. This greeting implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for the wisher her/himself or others, or responsibility for the consequences which may arise from the implementation or non-implementation of it. This greeting is void where prohibited by law. Comments (42)My post got long .. here's what I wanted to say. I believe that 30 , 3 minute videos, watched one after another . which means they would have to be downloaded together.. not picked and watched from youtube.. is the best way i've learned to understand new topics i want to learn about. With this in mind if someone can help , not by using a one at a time converter. but by a bulk , 30 video downloader for Youtube or google video, I will be glad to explain why it's the best way to learn. and I'm willing to make a nice donation, of $30 or more to a charity of the choice of the person helping with the method to bulk save about 30 or 40 videos at a time. I said i would explain why in detail if you want I'm glad to do it. And i'm willing to donate because it's a good time where people need donations and I have the money to donate. and it's something i'm asking for. Thanks for listening and reading. I spent hours trying to write something useful but it got confusing and so finally you got the gist of what I meant to say. : ) All with good intentions for me, the group, and people who could benefit by the assistance of a technical helper. I posted here because people in this thread were the type who were the type I think would benefit by the type of learning I've had success with using youtube and many downloads. But what I offer is too much to suggest . . to people with not much time. That's why I needed a helper to create the downloader routine. Yes there are some already but the ones I've used are 1 at a time and that's too slow and tedious in my experience. I wanted to help everyone and this group was one I thought i could help and explain why .. : ) Be well...See Moremtnrdredux_gw
