Baseboard heat in bathroom: tile around or behind?
Comments (9)My first thought is to tile the wall and surface mount the heater. We're talking 1/4" of added wall thickness here right? If that won't work and you have to tile around it, hold the tile away from the baseboard so you can remove the end caps, and paint the sliver of exposed drywall the same color as the register. You'd then have the cut ends of the tile to deal with; bullnose, or what have you. But I'd tile the entire wall. Future-proofing. Well, I need to go be productive and build something. Wish me luck......See MoreCan I shorten a hot water baseboard register?
Comments (1)Yes you can, just use tin snips to remove the unwanted aluminum fins and shorten the copper pipe and B/B convection cabinet. Of course your heat output will be lowered by the removal, but you are adding anouther heat source that you plan on using....See MoreBaseboard Registers and Furniture Placement
Comments (2)No, no unusual layout - but from all the homes I've seen, with almost all of them having floor or baseboard registers, most of the time my furniture would have ended up in front of a register, or two. They have a piece of furniture in front of one, but their furniture isn't solid to the floor like mine. The room is approx 19 x 13'8 - their bedroom furniture is smaller than mine - unfortunately, my nightstands are 32" wide. They have these 2 tiny closets, not sure why, but they're there and coming out - my furniture will fit there, but thought it may be nice to have it on the long wall, where the registers are located - I know at least one of the two pieces would be in front of one of them, and possibly two - didn't get in to very detailed measuring. Basically, we could put the furniture there, but it would have to be away from the register, pulling it out a bit too far to look right, I think. There has to be something out there, I surely can't be the only one faced with this dilemma! Below are 3 pics of the room in question: The window wall is the wall I'd like to put the bed and nightstands on, center the bed in the middle of the window. That wood piece of furniture you see to the left, there's a baseboard reg. under there. The other one is in the second picture, probably right about where the bird cage is (and the chair behind it). It may not cover over the one in the second pic, but probably the one in the first. We have a king size bed, so between the bed and two dressers, we need 144 inches if everything was touching. More than likely we'll put it on the other wall where I don't believe there's any vents (they have furniture there) We have to remove the two tiny closets and our furniture will fit on the wall. Well, at least the bed and nightstands! They sure do love purple!!!! Thanks!...See MoreFloor or baseboard registers
Comments (10)Another vote for toe kick. Once we had one centered on the slider in the breakfast room. That wasn't too bad except the heat went up the curtains when they were closed. But in the middle of the floor, no way. Imagine stepping on it in stocking feet, not pleasant. It would also interrupt the floor, not pretty. A brass register may be better looking than some other material, but a register should be heard (or felt) and not seen. It should not be put in a place where it will become a design element (or have to be worked around with your design.)...See MoreAshley Toaz
