How much space should be open below a floating vanity?
Comments (5)Mongoct, that's a good idea to just do a deeply recessed toekick to simplify cleaning if we stay with just 5" below the vanity. The room the vanity will be in is 6' x 6' (the shower and toilet area is separated by a pocket door). The look I am going for is clean and modern, but still tranquil and spa like. I will consider the under-cabinet lighting. Pharoah, thank you for posting that picture of your gorgeous vanity. I love your wood grain. It is very helpful to see pictures and know the measurements. I am afraid I will not get the look I am going for with less than 6". I can probably reduce my drawer section to 28" to get 7" below. I was originally planning on having 5" toekick drawers to store the scale, extra boxes of toothpaste and lens solution, etc., so I am really reducing my storage a bit to get a look if I go this way. Form vs. function is a constant battle. I am doing a wall hung toilet in the adjoining room, but that gives me both form and function as it will be easier to clean around and the in-wall tank frees up floor space in a not-large room....See MoreThoughts on minimal floating vanity (just counters + sinks)?
Comments (56)So for all the extremely patient (saintly!) folks who have somehow hung in with my crazy journey to find the perfect master bath vanity...I have finally decided. I'm giving up my lofty, Quixotic dreams of sublime floating sinks atop gorgeous walnut shelves and all the other designer fare and going with IKEA Godmorgon after all. This after another visit to my favorite Swedish emporium, where, hopped up on far too much lingonberry sauce, I walked once again through the bathroom section and suddenly it all spoke to me and made perfect sense. That, and the fact that my favorite salesperson greeted me with a big, warm wave and smile (and this is someone I have peppered with questions for months on end). Ten year warranty. Great customer service (at least in my experience). Ceramic sink, not acrylic (like SO many vanities sold on Houzz). I'm keeping it simple with one 55" Godmorgon in high gloss white + a double Odensvik sink, centered on my 113" wall, with a at least one tall, narrow cabinet on one end for extra storage. This gives us more storage than we'll ever need, plenty of breathing room, the exterior door won't need to be replaced, and I'll have $$ left over to splurge a bit on fixtures and/or better quality tile. And hey! I bought a bathtub today, too! (no, not at IKEA) :-D Thanks for your patience and support!...See MoreHow high off the floor should the BOTTOM of a floating vanity be?
Comments (22)@pinkysonpatki6 - I have two heights of vanities. One was custom made by my father and it is shorter - its a box mounted on the wall. Its for a half bath. My other vanities are all the same height but mounted at different heights so the tops of the sinks are at counter height. All of my vanity sinks are different heights. Anywhere from a tall vessel to medium to low height ”drop in” to a regular ”drop in”. If all of my sinks were the same then each cabinet would have been mounted with the top at the same height on the wall. You don’t want a tall vessel mounted on a counter height cabinet as it very cumbersome to wash your hands, brush your teeth etc unless you are tall and I am not. I just measured the height of the top of the sinks in two of my baths downstairs and the top of the sinks are 37” above the floor. - a little more than counter height....See MoreNeed small floating vanity - MDF, wood, recommendations?
Comments (8)Thanks for your input on Duravit Sabrina. I found a Duravit vanity with a drawer that is only 11" tall! Now to see if I can actually view it anywhere. I seem to find the needle in a haystack items that can only be purchased online. I really appreciate being able to touch something like this before buying. I was surprised that Durvit doesn't seem to have a showroom in NYC - only in Asia, Europe, and Africa. Perhaps they are sold more internationally and maybe that is why I can't find any reviews on US retailer websites. Might also be why they make a lot of options for tiny spaces....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
