Stairway Decor and Positioning

Would love suggestions for stairway decor. We already have two gallery walls so hoping for another idea. I found a mirror with a bright, abstract glass frame that I love. It is 36 by 72 inches. Would those dimensions work in this space and if so, how should it be centered?

Your best bet might be to cut out 36x72 cardboard and test. Try centering within the 96 inches, but also try lower.

I the mirror sounds very cool.
But, I think I’d just go with a massive piece of art.
Or a big family photo.
Or just wallpaper.
Personally, a mirror there wouldn’t work for me. I don’t think it will reflect anything important. Or worth seeing twice. Lol.

It turns out the downstairs is so bright, it’s nearly impossible to tell even on adjacent walls, so with the change in paint color behind the room, I’m going to use the decorator’s white except for in the open stairway. The one exception is I’m not sure about the mudroom. It doesn’t have any natural light at all and at night it looks dingy. It’s hard to see with the current swatches because the BM samples they gave me are matte, and that room has more sheen now and definitely needs it to reflect the light. I was thinking of switching the lightbulbs or fixtures out first, then swatching the paint again. I’ve had a lot of trouble with paint when switching to LED’s. The last bulbs I switched gave the walls a pink cast. I hate yellow-ish lightbulbs but I also don’t care for super cool light. I want the layered lighting look I used to have with a mix of traditional recessed, pendant, and other lights, just without the yellow cast. All of these articles online reference a range of options but all I can find at the hardware store is cool or warm, in very few choices as far as brightness. Sometimes they even have a name that implies they’re in the middle but then on the back of the packaging they are at the same place on the scale as the cool or warm bulbs.

Every wall doesn't need to be adorned. The art is the curved stair. Make sure the chandelier you select has a dark finish.

The obvious option would be framed art, but there are other things, like ... collections of decorative plates, decorative baskets, hats, group of embroidery frames with fabric stretched over them. If you 'do' Joanna Gaines, there are always big signs. Basically, if it's fairly flat, it's possible. Then again, you could also hang a mobile from the ceiling there which would provide movement while also visually 'filling' that empty wall.

It’s difficult to suggest something for the stairway wall without knowing the decor of the adjoining spaces. Can you post more photos?

I'd select something that cascades down the wall —nothing as static as a mirror.

IMO we need to see the whole staircase and get some clue as to your style. I agree no mirro and that one shown is good example of why you do not do it,

If a mirror doesn't reflect something interesting I discourage it's use. In your case I would opt for an extra large piece of artwork - something grand in scale.

Feels like clutter to me reminiscent of the days we got baskets at Pier One to fill dead space : ). Three of something strongly related/stepped up, is not really the same as "gallery"

24 X 36......with 4 inches between them equals 80" total "width" on a wall 103 inches wide

Pick the starting point nearer the foot.
