Dwarf Music Box sunflower - rants/raves?

I picked up some seeds of these, was looking for something not too short but not too tall -- I very much enjoy Autum Beauty but they get so tall that I can't cut them for the vase without getting out a stepladder (plus high winds knock them over). The description of the Music Box says 28-30" -- in your experience is this about right, or do then end up taller or shorter? What general feedback do you have for these? Thanks!

Depends what you want them for. Re;height - yep, they do only grow around 2.5 feet tall. and don't need staking (unless you are in a wind-tunnel ) I confess, I only grow a few sunflowers for picking and prefer more branching sunflowers (like Vanilla Ice or Italian White, with smaller flowers (although they were rubbish, this last year). MB flowers are actually quite large, considering their height. I have not grown them myself - only seen them in other people's gardens, but it's always worth experimenting with different annuals, imo,

You can't go wrong with a sunflower. They'll be fine for cutting, but the branching types, even though they're taller, will continue to put out buds and blooms while the music box types are a one bloom and done show.

Just about everything eats sunflowers. Deer love them and will eat them right down to the ground. Rabbits often eat the newly sprouted and even squirrels go after them, once they find them. Sunflowers hate to be transplanted but you might try growing them in large pots and then setting the pot where you want them after they get big if you can't protect them while they are babies. Whenever I read or hear a gardening "expert" rant and rave about only planting perennials I always say - "a garden isn't a garden without sunflowers" (the same attitude goes for zinnias and numerous other annuals - I wouldn't want to garden without them).

Hello there.. i think we did a trade together last spring.. I have the royal and baby blue delphinians,, also some navy giants delphs.. I also have a few varieties of sunflowers.. music box and teddy bears.. Hmmm, the seed packet says branching. The website description says 40" but packet says 28-30", but they both say branching.

They do branch...but with really short flower stalks in tight little leaf axils , so if you want them for cutting, you have to take a whole stem. I really don't think they are good for cutting, (unless you grow them in rows as a crop) but as a floriferous clump to anchor a border, they have a place.
