Please help with rug and artwork suggestions for this living room
Hi friends. Please help me with this living room.
We downsized, and I'm struggling a bit. I like a modern organic feel, but my husband wants to add color. I'd like to avoid blues and reds because these were our last home's main colors. I like greens, greys, neutrals, and oranges, but I'm open. We just painted the walls white.
As for the rug, it can't be black due to the blonde/white doggie. The space behind the sofa and between the lamps is 8'x4.5'. Hoping for a large art suggestion that meshes with the rug.
Also, while we're here, I'm looking to replace the flooring and would love to get some feedback. Hoping for a timeless blonde color. The ceilings are unusually low in this house, so hoping the lighter color opens things up a bit. I don't want it to appear too trendy and be unappealing to future buyers. Thoughts on the swatches?
Just want to note I'll be replacing the ceiling fan with a matte black one and moving it to be more centered. And I have a twin mirror going up on the other wall, but they will be brought down a few inches.

Art is personal so I suggest looking at minted.com or other online sites but it's also good to look in local galleries.

this is Prampton+Machine woven at Wayfair.com an inexpensive modern rug that would look nice with your sofa... I'd forget the matching mirrors nothing fantastic to reflect.
a white ceiling fan to disapear into the ceiling, not stand out. lift the plants off the floor with stands, and add drapery panels extended beyond the trim on the window (rod at ceiling height to draw eye upward) . the symetrical lamps on the sofa table are too matchy, try a floor lamp
Any thought on spinning the sectional and having the sofa table exposed, for a softer cozier seating area? a lower larger coffee table or ottoman? Don't go too light on the floor, you want to see some grain, but I think your options are great.
group your greens, too many scattered around justs makes too much visual stimulation.
this rug looks better in person.

Comments (13)You could use a much shorter lamp there to get rid of it blocking the view. However, it seems like a piece of art centered on that wall might not work......... that wall is basically the dividing line between two different rooms, right? (Yes, it's a great room... but the way the furniture is.... it just seems divided.) I would be confused about what to put up for that reason alone.... :) Personally, I would do a grouping of mirrors.... Comments (18)The wall color is SW Ramie. The chair was my grandmothers, and it is just sort of a placeholder right now. I have been searching for new chairs. I would really like to get 2 chairs, but I am unsure how to arrange everything. I would also like to get a new rug--I've been coveting a real hand-knotted forever. The current rug is very nice, 100% wool Couristan machine woven. It is in the same line as My3dog's lovely living room rug. They have been selling this line of rugs in the last year at Tuesday morning for less than half price. It doesn't come off quite as pale in person. I want to eventually move it into my bedroom, where it will be perfect. Does anyone have recommendations for a rug? What color scheme? I really like some of the orientals that are a bit more modern without a really tight or busy pattern. Comments (18)Too high, too small ; I agree with all of the above. Above the mantle is prime space/location, you shouldn't have to merchandise around the picture to make it look right. I disagree with adding more matting, possibly you should look for a print that can be framed with all of the image showing, this particular print looks like the matting is hiding some of the picture by cutting off parts of the trees, not too effective, imo. Feel free to look at all the threads that say, I painted my walls gray or purchased a gray sectional or installed gray carpet, what is wrong with my room? The problem is almost always because the gray is fighting with oak floors or tan walls or warm whites. Yes, gray and tans can work together but it takes decorating skill. If you are a decorating novice, make your life easier. Stick with the same color tones. On my screen the sofas show as dark brown.
