Where to Buy pumice and turface
Comments (8)I just bought it a couple weeks ago. Here's the specific store I got it from: TAMPA-WEST FL Manager: Terrence Broderick Phone: (813)887-5055 although it would seem really strange for there to be that big a difference in price between two John Deere stores. But I guess you can always call around to the ones closer to you and check their prices before you resort to the one across the state. FYI, they had one called "All-Sport" and another called "All-Sport Pro." I got the All-Sport, and when I got it home and looked at it, it seemed to fit the specs for MVP. The dealer had no idea about the particle size of the All-Sport Pro, and I didn't get to look inside the bag, but I asked Al about it, and he said his guess would be that All-Sport Pro is the same as Turface Pro-League, which has too small particles for the mixes. So in other words, you probably want to make sure you get the one without "Pro" in the name. :)...See MoreWhere to buy Pumice
Comments (11)Thanks guys! Well my little seedling arrived in the mail today from the states, and I had no choice at the moment but to plant in 5 parts perlite, 4 parts cactus soil, and 1 part sand. It's all I could find! I won't water this little dude for a couple of weeks. He does have some strong roots but will keep an eye on him. I do know about Al's gritty mix and in fact found a dealer here in Saskatoon for Turface. The grit though, grani grit, or cherry grit or whatever it's called is the hard part. Fir bark is easy to find at the petstore for reptiles, and then of course having to sift it is a chore. I eventually want to replace all my plants with Al's gritty mix but for now it's not feasable. I hope putting in a bit of sand is going to help, with the perlite. My other succulents and cactus are in a 50/50 mix of cactus soil and perlite....See MoreWhere to buy Pumice and small Scoria (
Comments (9)Hi! My names Lexi & my family just recently purchased and renovated the only 2 Pumice mines in California. Since our family is now in charge of the mines, known now as "General Pumice Products", we have mining rights for the next 200 years and can actually ship 15lb. bags of 4 different sizes of pumice straight to your front door! We also sell in bulk and wholesale to nurseries like Altman's, Monrovia, Color Spot, etc. so we can give you better deals than distributors like Agromin or GreenThumb. Go to our website for more information and to order! Thanks so much. Comments (23)I think the drying times that you calculated with the pumice will be detrimental only if you water the plant/pumice while it is still wet. Beyond that, I think you may be over-thinking this and over-worrying. I get 1/8" pumice from General Pumice Products here in the U.S. I just sifted and washed a bucketful over the weekend. It is drying in big oil pans outside -- and right now, it's really cold here in SW Florida. I don't think it will be fully dry until Thursday, and that will be 5 days. Chris is right -- use unglazed terra cotta pots if you can. Even with pumice, they will remain lightweight. Haworthias in pumice shouldn't need to be watered more than once a week, unless you live in hot southern Florida in the summer. Even then, mine only get watered about every 5 days. You don't HAVE TO water a Haw the very minute its mix is dry. You can wait a day or so and it will be fine....See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
