What tree is this - hard to describe what it produces?
Comments (5)Allenwrench, This is one is a hickory nut of some kind. Could be something perfectly edible, even delicious, or could be one of the astringent or bitter species. You'll have to wait until the nuts are ripe in the fall, then gather some, let them dry about a month, then crack them and see what they're like. Many hickory nuts are really, really delicious, but a bit hard to crack. Squirrels may take many of them before they are anywhere near mature. When they're ripe, the green outer husk splits open and eventually falls off, leaving a nice, clean nut. If it's white-ish to tan, and sort of flattened, it's a hickory, if it's more round and darker brown, it's a pecan. Both are in the same genus, Carya. Comments (3)Probably a Dracena marginata, a common houseplant. The picture shows a bit of green at the bottom--is that the same plant? If so, cut the long stem down to within an inch of the new growth. If it is in a dark corner, it probably is in the process of dying. Move it to a brighter (but not direct sun) spon, give it some water (unless its soil is already wet), and it should come back nicely....See MoreWhat tree is this in zone 7b?
Comments (5)It's a Metasequoia. They are not quite so rare anymore. Modern, North American range is now from coastal Maine to probably North Florida. One of my favorite trees..., bought it mail-order maybe a decade ago and now we can build a tree house in it. Pic below is from a November several years ago. P.S., My goal in life is to reestablish the botanic, Jurassic endowment of the North American continent before it went extinct here. I guess we all need goals....See Moreneed help on what trees ect to plant along this fence
