Newhomebuilder, If your chandelier is 35" off that table, that is higher (off the table) than the norm. My sister has cathedral ceilings in her LR & DR, and her chandelier is about 30" off the table. I think hers would look much better higher. Like you. she has the option of going much higher due to the ceiling height. I think I am going to try and raise mine up a little tomorrow, another link or two and try it out. I already like it much better since I raised it from 27" off the table to 30" off the table. Chelone, In our kitchen we have a ceiling fan and light over the table. We only operate the light from the pull chain, and have an extension chain on the light chain so that we can reach it from a sitting position. We try and do as much as we can for comfort! Joann

I do prefer hanging light over the dining table. There is something very cozy about it. But I see how semi flush or flush or sconces or even big overhanging floor lamp can be beautiful too, in some cases. I don't like flush mounts or so I thought; but when I suddenly saw one that I really loved-I changed my opinion in a blink of an eye, and didn't rest until I found place for it:) So it depends. What I don't like-a huge amount of recessed lights..they're okay in kitchens or hallways or where they are really needed, but I saw several rather pretty houses that had just these recessed lights all over the ceilings, a lot of them, everywhere. And the ceilings were perfectly high too, so I truly could see no reason for them..it just brings unwanted attention to these lights, and you can't look away somehow.

82 feet? wow. that's some table. I assume you mean 8' dining table? W 20.5" / D 20.5" / H 37.5" / 26 lb.it's 20x20 by 37" high. can you get a tape measure so you can visualize that? there are 6-40w bulbs. Your best bet is to go into a lighting store where they have this type of beaded chandelier, and see how it looks when lit. And if you're actually asking sales that question, this is the wrong forum

IMO that is too small for that tableand please no crappy looking shiplap in that space and lose that clock
