Comments (27)My plate of favorites would include white and dark meat turkey, rustic (made with unpeeled potatoes that are not mashed until they no longer resemble potatoes) mashed potatoes with a bit of whole milk and butter, kasha (buckwheat) stuffing, fresh green beans with mushrooms, turnip puff, cooked carrots with a hint of maple syrup and browned butter, turkey gravy for the stuffing and potatoes, and a raw fruit salad with a touch of lime juice and honey. I’m not much of a dessert eater, but I like a creamy lemon pie with a crushed animal cracker crust, usually called North Carolina lemon pie, I think. I may have to make one tomorrow. I first had the kasha stuffing when I went home with a college friend for T-day and have made it since then. Wonderfully flavored with everything you’d put in a bread dressing, it is a delicious alternative to a festive feast. Comments (44)Lizbeth: For my Green Chile Pinwheels, I use one drained, 4-ounce can of chopped green chiles (Hatch or Bueno are my preferred brands for quality). Here's my recipe for my Biscochitos. Biscochitos Ingredients ¨ 3 cups butter (originally called for lard) ¨ 1 1/2 cups sugar ¨ 2 large eggs, beaten ¨ 1 teaspoon anise extract ¨ 3 teaspoons vanilla extract ¨ 7-8 teaspoons anise seeds ¨ 1 teaspoon salt ¨ 1/’4 cup brandy ¨ 5 cups all-purpose flour ¨ 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder ¨ 1/4 cup sugar + 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon for topping Directions: 1) Cream sugar and butter. Add in beaten eggs. 2) Next add in the anise and vanilla extracts, anise seeds, salt and brandy. Mix well. 3) Mix in the flour and baking powder. Roll out your cookie dough, thick or thin depending on your preference. 4) Cut into star or flower shapes with cookie cutters, and sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Move to cookie sheets. 5) Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for approximately 12-15 minutes, BUT WATCH THEM! Bake only until golden. Comments (31)One more Halloween story to share, and then I will shut up. We lived walking distance from the elementary school. The children did not ever go home for lunch, except on Halloween, so that they could change into costumes for the 1PM Halloween parade and classroom parties to follow. Some kids were unable to go home because they needed a bus (not provided) or if their parents were unavailable because of work. I always asked my daughter's teacher if she knew who was staying in , and then I would call the mom and invite her child for lunch at my house. I usually had two or three. It always turned into a fun time, and I got such a kick out of helping the kids get ready. Excitement was in the air! As my DD2 grew, the numbers of lunch guests grew too. I found out that her classmates were asking their parents if they could stay at school, knowing that they would be coming to our house for lunch. I eventually wound up with double-digit ghosts and goblins, and I felt like the Pied Piper leading them all back to school for the afternoon fun. Fun times! Happy memories!...See MoreFestive Floof! Comments (10)The keurig idea wont work. We do not have a keurig and im not gonna get one just for them. And also, a lot of my drivers do not really have time to wait for one to brew. Also, they will still make a mess with all the little cups. It would work if I were setting it up for my coworkers though. I might do THAT. But for my drivers, I just wanted to have it so they could just grab a cup and go like they do the coffee. Even If I just gave them hot water and little packets they could do that fast. They almost all add some sort of sugar and creamer to their coffee so its not much different, time wise. I myself would just prefer to have it made already, to reduce to mess. But not if it wont work or keep like that....See More
