Power control center or other electricity?
Comments (17)Thank you all again for being so helpful! Please bear with me as I try to figure out what I need! funnylady -- did you have problems with the LCD screen on your nelson 5945? I looked this model up and with the misting feature, it seems that it would work wonderfully 20 seconds on, 5 minutes off. I looked at reviews and almost hands down people say the LCD has stopped working. The timer works well still, but useless not being able to adjust it anymore. kudzu, thank you for the link. It does look like the exact same thing, with the exception of the one you giving me being able to use 1-second increments and the Charley's is 5-seconds. Also, the Charley's has a valve connected to it. The one from Mr. Drip does not. I think I would be able to still buy this one much cheaper through Mr. Drip along with the valve but I'm not too sure what I need in the way of a valve since the one I have now is an all-in-one package similar to the Nelson model. Mr. Drip has valves available but I'm not sure if this is what I would need: http://www.mrdrip.com/sprinklervalves.htm. I was thinking that #57623 or #57100 may work? I don't even know what I would do to set it up, though. Would I just screw the valve onto the faucet and then hook the solenoid from the timer into the valve? Thank you for your patience with me and all of your help, everyone!...See MorePlacement of shower controls and shower door
Comments (9)With a full-height wall instead of half-height, that's our shower, and it's great. I can turn on the water and adjust the temp without getting wet, and it's easy to wipe the controls after a shower. The handle is centered at 48" which is just right. In reaching in just now, 40" is as low as I could comfortably go with out having to bend. I'm 5'4". DH is about 5'10" and would probably find 40" too low. Comments (10)Dornbracht Cost, IIRC, about $1500. The plumbing gods were not slow to punish our hubris. Two issues developed. It has 2 small integral check valves. Grit was keeping them open causing hot to flow into the cold. Never could get cold water in the master bathroom sink in normal conditions for a year until we fixed this recently. Had to let the cold run for about 25 seconds in the kitchen as well. Since this fixture is so rare, contractor did not install tile to allow proper access to valves, so he had to hack away at tile beneath escutcheon. The main cartridge needed to be replaced. The problem was that if all 3 shower heads were on, or the valves were opened too suddenly, or the water was turned toward cold, the water would become freezing cold and had to be turned off and on again. This is a $500 part, but was covered under the 4 year warranty. These problems are tricky to track down. A licensed plumber refused to help him with this (we did not know how the hot was getting into the cold, and his experience told him how frustrating that could be to pin down), so my contractor trouble shot it himself, consulting with me several times. Nothing looks better. And now that it works properly it's a joy to have. But beware the high end, and doubly beware the ultra high end....See MoreShower diverter -- integrate with control valve vs no volume control?
Comments (19)HU- I don't want to "permanently fix the temperature." Only one of the three showers in my house is currently working. Not everyone in my household likes the shower water at the same temperature. The diverter integrated with volume control will work only with two outlets. If I wanted three outlets (e.g.. jet shower head, handheld, and rain head), I would need to have the diverter separated from volume control, as in my primary shower (see photo below). I think Axor, Hansgrohe, and Dornbracht may be the only suppliers available to me that offer a two-way diverter integrated with volume control. With this configuration, I need only two levers -- one for thermostatic control and one for diverter / volume control. Actually, the wannabe-plumber (GC's friend / "employee") messed up in my primary shower when installing the rough-ins -- I will need to rip out tile and redo to get hot water. It was my designer's idea to swap the tub and shower from their original positions, which landed the shower valves and heads on exterior walls (the shower area is a "bump out."). The architect had proposed a neoangle shower in the primary bathroom -- but that was nixed by the GC and designer....See More- last year
