Are you sure you want this wall treatment? I find that with eight foot ceilings I want to emphasize the vertical not cut the wall up with horizontal elements that make the ceilings seem lower.

More challenges:

Will the battens stick out past the stringer? What are you doing for baseboard? How will you handle the right side corner...where there isn't enough room between the casing & adjacent wall to fit a batten without it protruding past the the door casing? And where there is a switch to deal with?

I would leave as is and use artwork on that wall.

If you love board & batten and want to use it somewhere--find another place--like a laundry room or office.

I would need to understand why this wall treatment on that wall? Accent walls are best when there is a whole wall with no interruptions and without some context hard to understand why this wall at all.

What’s on your right, standing where you took this picture? Another wall which creates a hallway? Or an open room?

What about trying it with a grid wall. You can go to the ceiling. In this fireplace example, they kept the grid even around it.

I see that wall as a perfect opportunity to place a beautiful console with a fabulous piece of art above it! Save the panel treatment or board and batten for another wall where it can really make an impact.

Too narrow for a console…how about a large textile wall hanging for color and to soften up the hard surfaces? Would be more interesting than board and batten.

Why not add wallpaper? You can make the space feel bigger and a gallery of pics.

Oh well that new picture changes things! It’s a very narrow hallway, I see now. No room for furniture.

A hanging textile would be my choice too, to add some softness. Here’s one from Pinterest, but you probably wouldn’t want one quite this big.

Thanks for posting a full photo of your hallway. You are correct. It is too narrow for a console. Art, yes. A console, no. But the impact of Board and Batten would just be lost in that space, too. I would purchase, instead, a pretty runner to draw the eye down the hallway to a larger destination.

Take the board and batten all the way to the ceiling and put trim around the stringer sections, like they did below. I'd also carry it through on the staircase wall, too.
