I just texted this to some of my friends. This lady was only 49 years old and she had cardiac arrest??!! That’s awful.

Julie Powell wrote the book that the movie was based on. Amy Adams portrayed her in the movie.

Donna - I have a lot of confidence that you will find some time to "play" next week, enjoy the time off! Besh - I agree, don't get frustrated, we have all been there and if you keep behaving it will only be a temporary gain. Suzanne - I love tarragon too, also rosemary. Dee - one of our closest friends is a dentist. I always ask him how it feels to have so many people afraid of you. He is one of the nicest men I know and I can only imagine that he is very gentle and compassionate as a dentist. He lives over an hour away or I would go to him. Marci - I have my gyn appointment in a couple of weeks - I dread it too, but necessary. How is DD doing (and you)? I can't wait to see DD#1 in a few weeks! Patti - if you are reading, we miss you, hope you are having fun being a grandma LOL. My MIL had been visiting since Sunday, she was suppose to leave on Sunday but became very bored and left today. I guess my BIL's house is more exciting (thank goodness). You can't even believe all the things we did with her and she is still bored. She had her hair done, we took her shopping, out on the boat, out to breakfast twice, out to lunch another day and out to dinner one night. DH went into work late so they could spend time together and 20 family members were with us Sunday and Monday. I wish I had time to get bored. QOD - No agenda and I hope it stays that way. I haven't had my house to myself since last Friday and it feels good to just be home. As much as I go out I am really a homebody at heart. Friends are coming up from FL tomorrow evening, so we will probably go boating if the weather permits. Enjoy your weekend.

I read the book and Julie is awful. Every other word is the f-bom, she complains about the "whiny" people affected by 9/11 who she is supposed to speak with as part of her job, is just a nasty, self-centered narcissist. Can you tell I don't like her??? I hated the book; the only part I liked was the story bits about Paul and Julia. So when I finally saw the movie it was ruined because of Julie herself (and heck - she wrote the book, and represented herself in that light). I also visited her blog once just to see, and sure enough, she was vile and insulting to the people who disagreed with her or called her on her language and behavior. I'm sorry I bought the book and put money in her pocket. I saw the movie on cable. Sad. Suzieque

Hardiness zones for Julia Child?

My JCs are own root, third year bushes, growing in zone 5/6 W. PA, with sporadic snow cover, which means snow cover cannot be relied upon to insulate against the winter. The first year no winter protection was provided. They died to the ground, but came back respectably. At the end of their second year of growth, 2015 season, they were bigger than they were after their first year. Good sign. Since they died back to the ground after their first winter, I decided to protect them last fall. A collar of heavy roofing paper filled with pine bark mulch was used. This past spring when the JCs were uncovered there was dieback until about 6 inches above the crown, unlike their total dieback their first winter. This year's growth is about equal to their growth last year, their second year. Does this mean the winter protection provided last winter was unnecessary even though some above ground growth was saved? One would think so, but if they had not been protected this past winter, they could have been killed, or cut back so far that they regressed in growth. There are so many variables as to how successfully a rose will survive winter that it is very difficult to predict what the outcome will be. I've had severe winters with minimal dieback and mild ones with severe dieback. I think the periodic warm spells during winter cause more winter kill than one would think. I intend to winterize the JCs again this winter. What have I got to loose? Any advantage a rose gets helps. I would advise you to give your Julia Child maximum protection. What's the harm? BTW If you have more than one Julia Child, are they then Julia Children?

I’m so sorry to hear this. I loved that movie and thought she was either courageous or foolhardy to try to cook every recipe in Mastering the Art of French Cooking! Considering that she accomplished what she set out to do, I suppose it was courageous!

I loved the book and the movie. I told DH this evening that I was looking for it on various streaming sites today, I wanted to watch it while I worked on a project, and he thhought I was looking for it because she had died. That’s how I found out! Such a shame.

Jasdip, you may still be able to edit the post to correct it to say the writer and not the actress died.

It is sad.

It's sad when someone's life ends at such a young age. I feel sorry for her.

Having said that, I didn't much care for the book or the movie. The premise was imaginative but lame.

My daughter read it was covid related. Did anyone else read that? It's quite sad.

I thought it was a clever amusing movie. My daughter and I watched it together. It always reminds me of her and the fun we had with silly movies.

From the movie, I still remember the scene of Julia learning to chop onions with the knife and onion pieces flying all over the place...

I'm so sorry, I corrected it.

We quite enjoyed the movie. Stanley Tucci was perfect as Paul.

Stanley Tucci is perfect in everything. But yes, I loved him as Paul.

How very sad. So young. I hope it comforts her family and friends that she fulfilled some of her wonderful goals.

There's a season of a series of Julia with David Hyde Pierce and Sarah Lancashire. I didn't think I'd like it with DHP but he was actually pretty good. Sarah does a great job as Julia.

If the setting or circumstances of this tale are of interest, there's no better source for a deeper and more authentic dive than Julia Child's own account of her side, her autobiography "My Life In France". It's a wonderful book, I highly recommend it.

"She truly made her own lane," said someone at Salon. She certainly did. It's a shame she didn't live longer to enjoy it.

Julie & Julia is streaming now on Hulu.

And yes, My Life in France is excellent.
