@BenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14) Thank you! Chantilly cream sounds like a must have! My only concern is its color is more cream or more yellow? I want a soft yellow.

KJ (9B, San Jose CA) Roses that do well in my extreme cold & zone 5a, also do well in extreme heat. That's why I hang out in Facebook group with Khalid in Pakistan, zone 9b with his temp. at above 110 F.

Vanessa Bell is mentioned as an outstanding performer by Peter Schneider in Freedom Gardens rose nursery, zone 6. Vanessa Bell is also mentioned as the best Austin by a friend nearby who has over 120 roses.

I don't buy Vanessa Bell since I'm into best scent and roses that last long in the vase.

For soft yellow with super healthy & dark green and glossy foliage (never see mildew), plus fantastic scent like caramel candy, plus lasting long in the vase, plus big bloom at 4" across, is Tchaikovsky shrub.

It's classified as floribunda/grandiflora so it's bushier and generous with blooms, even in partial shade. Roses with firm petals that last long in the vase can take hot sun better.

I like Tchaikovsky way more than Moonlight Romantica (very stingy and needs week-long rain to bloom). Dark green leaves like Tchaikovsky can bloom well even with alkaline tap water.

Its patent is expired, so I can root it like other roses: Evelyn, Abe. Darby, W.S. 2000, Spirit of Freedom, Mary Magdalene, Radio Times, Christopher Marlowe, August Luis, Sonia Rykiel, James Galway, the Squire, the Dark Lady, Golden Cel., Gertrude Jekyll.

All money received goes to charities (Catholic nuns who work with the poor).

I find that French roses like Tchaikovsky can take my rock hard clay & hot summer & cold winter better than Austin water hogs. See below 10th-year own-root Tchaikovsky in my zone 5a garden, in 3 to 4 hours of sun, compact as own-root at 3' x 2' and doesn't consume much water.

Below is Tchaikovsky to compare with other large blooms (Peter Mayle at 4.5" across), Upper pink Kiss me Kate, left is Sweet Mademoiselle, deep purple is Twilight Zone). Yellow Tchaikovsky is the runner up at 4" across, bigger and more petals than Augusta Luis at bottom.

I’d classify Chantilly Cream as a yellow. It’s really more medium yellow at the center, fading lighter as it ages , starting at the edges.

Straw, I will look up Tchaikovsky. I remember I was attracted by its first photo on heirloom, but found other photos look very different from the first one. Thank you 💕
