Cabinet Pull Size for Kitchen Cabinets

I have a bank of 33" draws right next to a bank of 30" drawers. If I follow the 1/3 rule, I would need 10" pulls on the 30" - but, what do I do for the 33"? Do I keep the same since the drawers are right next to each other, or do I increase to 12"?

Also, I have a 36" wide floor to ceiling pantry two panel cabinet. What size handles do I use (the top part will be a knob since it is a shorter door) ?

This is really subjective and there really is no right or wrong answer! With just a 3" difference I would probably just do them all the same.

Look at photos on Houzz to see what looks good to you.

Myself, I don't like pulls that are too short (old look), double pulls (even older look) and pulls that are nearly the full width of a drawer (too modern and all you notice is pulls)! Told you it was subjective!

I like pulls to be in proprtion to the cabinet it takes some time to figure out that layout I use painters tape cut to the size I think works Sometimes it is also a good idea to not do all one direction This a great pic to show what I mean I for sure never put 2 pulls on a drawer.

The 3 1/2" in the cup pulls, and 1 1/2" on the knobs. I think a 3" pull and 1" knob is too small, but this is a personal preference type area. Maybe you could see similar sizes somewhere and see how they feel to you.

Yes, and it was a terrible idea---our cabinetmaker had to take it back to the shop to fix and repaint! (In fairness, he did warn us...) In our case, it was the handle for the trash pullout. It depends on what your center panels are made of, though. If they're solid wood, you should be okay. If they're MDF (as ours were since our cabinets are painted), having the pull in the center panel eventually caused the panel to start to splinter. Our cabinetmaker says we would have had the same problem with plywood, though not sure if that's the case. (He mostly does stained cabinets, and uses solid wood for the center panels on those, which I gather works fine for pulls.) We do have all of our drawer pulls mounted on the center panel (like buehl's photo) and those are fine, but that's because the pulls are held by the drawer box on the other side, as TorontoTim says. I don't like it as much aesthetically, but function won out over form in this case. I'd check with Omega to find out what the panels are made of to be sure.

My pulls vary on the uppers, from a 3" bunny head to a 5" bar pull. Some just have fat knobs. I personally don't like the look (unless it's a really modern kitchen) of long bar pulls on the upper cabinets. It's not like you need to grab several inches to open the door. My cabinets are shaker (modified style but close) and go up to the ceiling. The pulls I have are bulky but not super long (which would look awful with the other pulls in my kitchen).

Typically pulls/knobs manufacturers won't make both an 8" and 9" size so you won't likely be able to have both in the same style. Look at the pulls you like and see if they come in either of those two sizes. I usually feel that pull sizes should vary in the kitchen with the size of the drawers, but that is more if the drawers are quite different in widths. Your drawers are not so the pulls can be the same size. A good trick is to make aluminum foil pulls in the sizes you are looking at, and hold them up against the drawers. That will help you see which size works best.

Yes- def doing single pulls on drawers and knobs on doors. Guess just wondering if I size up on the 33” drawers if they are sitting NEXT to a bank of 30” drawers OR use the same size pull for both for uniformity? Doing the 1/3 rule!

The drawers are close enough in size that the pulls could all be the same size and look good. But if you have any doubts about which size pull, you can either make aluminum foil pulls in the two sizes and hold them up against the drawers, or you can buy one of each size of the pulls and see how they look. That should not be too expensive. Some of the hardware websites such as Top Knobs, allow you to get 2 or 3 samples, and then when you place your order you receive credit for the sample items you did not keep.
