How can I make a ceiling fan and chandelier work in the same space?

Just bought a 100yr old house. Front door opens up to the living room, and im trying to make a ”entry” tiny space, since the loving room is long and narrow. it has two electrical ceiling boxes one has a pretty ceiling fan and the other I wanted a light fixture. anything so far i have put up there doesnt blend well. that oart of the house js narrow and where that electrical box is theres a few feet of space before you go in to the kitchen…whichs also narrow alley kitchen that leads to the dining after that the house opens up to hallways for bedrooms. i just need ideas of what to install or should i just put another ceiling fan that matches? and the furniture is moving not married to any of the furniture lay out -we havent recieved accent chairs and other pieces in yet. backordered :/

well, it's hard with temporary furniture arrangement, but I think you're unlikely to get a true chandelier that doesn't look out of place there. focus on something flush or semi-flush that has a little personality but stays up near the ceiling and plays well with the fan. here are a few to help you brainstorm:

without a photo its kind of a word salad. LOL. Perhaps install a flush mount light or a bell jar, or semi flush rather than a chandelier. Entryways do not have ceiling fans tho.

I would do two main things. When the dining table chairs have served their time, I would personally replace the set with something more cosy and eclectic. Secondly, I would replace the generic looking artwork (apologies if it's not - can't see it too well through the chandelier) with something that has meaning to you. Don't worry about staging it, or it will just just look beautifully generic once you're done - could be a favourite photograph you want to enlarge, the kids artwork, a family heirloom etc etc. The other stuff is easy - flowers, a nice table setting, etc. No need of a rug under the table unless something truly speaks to you - there is something nice and expansive and uncluttered about the flow as is. Enjoy your new home!

Getting rid of the header and dividing wall will give you a lot more space to work with. Whether you want counter space or not depends on how you think you will use it. Will it become a dumping ground? Do you want to keep the curtain, or make the area more presentable without it? Are you willing/able to spend the money to build cabinetry? If money was no object, I would keep the W/D stacked, and build cabinets around/above them. I have pull-outs above my fridge that I find very convenient for light-weight or rarely used things - my canning pot, paper towels, extra cereal boxes (the open box is in a different place). Something like that would allow you to use the deep space without losing things in the back. On the pantry side, use some combination of drawers and doors to suit the items you need to store.

I love the photo of it wrapped around, I'm just not sure how it would work in my space. It's open concept so there is no fourth wall to complete the ceiling in the room. Plus the wall on the left and right of the feature wall are much different lengths. The other issue is that the bulkhead goes down the wall on the right too. There is no way to match that on the left because of the window with beige curtains being so close to the corner. It feels like such a hard space to make pretty!

Yikes! I didn't know that about pop-up trundles. Good to know so as to avoid them. I wonder if there are different quality ones that might be better? The day bed looks like it might work for kids, but I would hate to be the person in the back who would be up against a wall and have to climb out over the front person. eta: I looked again and it looks like it can be designed so there is no back on it, which might work perfectly, so you can have it away from the wall for access from both sides.

Is the ceiling fan a necessary due to no A/C? If not, just remove it and put in two light fixtures. If you haven't lived there long, wait and go through a summer before you decide to remove the fan.

gah!! I’m so sorry! Word Salad is no fun. im new and just rushed. Please excuse the mess. We are moving in as we do major repairs and still be festive. we are in Central TX - fan helps!

I’m no expert on types of ceiling light fixtures but I do use ceiling fans. It’s hard to blend form and function with the newer LED lights, but I used a modern- looking fan w / integrated LED light in a fairly traditional bedroom in order to get the highest lumens light.
If the fan looks weirdest in the entry area , you could move it to the other box or get a new fan with an integral light, and have something more welcoming in entry. Plus you likely need other light sources, so could be thinking an overall lighting plan for how you will use the space ( background lighting, task lighting and so on), as you think about where to put your lighting $$.

I can't tell exactly what color the fan is, but I suggest a simple semi-flush fixture for the other junction box that is roughly the same color as the fan so they look like they go together.

Is the front door by the bookcase? Honestly, my thought is to not create more visual here, you have a lot to look at and its a small space. I would put in another recessed light.

The ceiling fan looks odd by a wall like that put it in the middle of the room so another recessed light so the room don't look too busy

@RL Relocation LLC I was thinking same - after other suggestions. Specially since furniture will be leaving/moving... instead of spending $ on light fixtures - just have electrician add can lights and center ceiling fan if thats what we decide we want. such and odd space! we gave up the large master and treating it like a functional living room since it has big open modern door/windows and beautiful side patio (add on) with driveway access. its a NCD and historic home so limited on front remodel options
