Paint color ideas for contemp/moody tv room: please share!

Im requesting some ideas and thughts on making this dark green tv basement room with only 1 egress windown feel cozy and moody. it is narrow so shallow tv built in will give me more space for sectional.

i want to put a tv built-in between the two lights fixtures (i just received) im still debating the fixture.

***my questions im looking for help with are.***.

1. what color of wood/paint do i use for tv built in? my original thought was same color??

2. carpet- im narrowing down to these two after many samples- id love to hear comments on what is better?

3. any cool light fixtures that would look better love to see them- ive tried to look everywhere.

I would paint your built-in the same color as the wall, or if you want it to stand out more, black. All of those carpet samples are so similar I can't tell the difference between them. They all look good with the green, so I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of them. Things look different IRL, so you will be the best person to choose. To help yourself reach a decision, try this: put only two down. Decide which one you like better. Remove the other. Put another one down next to the one left. Decide which one you like better, etc. It's easier to choose between two things than six.

Thank you!! there are actually only two carpet samples there.. the fluffy on left and the 5 tony on right are actually all the same! ill try to post clearer photo!! thanks for feedback!!

Oh what a cutie! I agree that you have a good reason to not have a lot of time. I've been reminding of that time in my life the last two years that I've been babysitting our grandson. Who cares about decorating when you have a precious little one to love. And I can understand more about why hubby doesn't like changing things or doing more than "has" to be done. He's more worried about being a good daddy and supporting his family than having a "pretty" updated home. Our home was rather sparse with mostly hand me down or used furniture when our first born was a baby. Heck it wasn't much difference by the time our second baby was born. Not saying it wasn't warm and welcoming. It was, but not everything was perfect. I've learned with age, that it's not so important. Perfection, that is. I went through a period where things had to be just so. Maybe it's more living in a unfinished home with a hubby that works a full time job year round and umpires most of the rest evenings and weekends to keep in shape and it pays nice too. We'll be in good shape for retirement and that's a good thing. I'm glad you like the corner door shelf. It's really easy to do. The hardest part was cutting the door in half. It's heavy so it took three of us to do. But if you used two doors you wouldn't have to worry about that. I bought the door through Craigslist since I was going to distress it, it didn't have to be perfect to start with. Habitat Restores are a good source for used doors too. As for the lighting in the entry I was wondering if you'd be able to use a decorative type track lighting in there. They have some really nice looking ones that the "track" curves and all you need is the one box for the fixture.

I've made so many exciting changes. I love my new colors, greens, browns, accenting with rust, and will post pictures soon. Sorry,furniture arrangement remains the same. I bought two round oversized wood tables,and a matching oval coffee table, painted walls Old Salem Gray, added a couple area rugs,living and entryway, finished sewing interlined plaid drapes last night,now I am trying to decide how to hang them, added a couple embroidered flowery pillows, seems like the list goes on and on. I need to paint fireplace brown yet, buy new lamps, a picture, and accessories. Do you like either of these ideas...built in shelves with , cabinet doors possibly painted Whitall Brown, same color I plan to use behind the tv or the Floating Shelves painted brown. I don't really like the paneling look on the builtins but I thought the brown cabinets below to match the brown above the fireplace would work ?? These are the shelving /bookcases INSPIRATIONAL pictures I think will work. Do you like them?? Thank you so much for inspiring me to make CHANGES...I've been waiting to move, and now I love my "new home"..well not really, but I'm feeling in style now with painted walls!! Will post entry, living and kitchen pics soon. Today I am sewing my patio door drapes, in a fabulous multi colored stripe. Also loved my kitchen chairs slipcovered in beige tapestry print, so BB&B here I come for 5 more of those bargains $5.99 each plus coupons!! Michelle

Dear Annie, thank you for sharing your ideas - they give me some more food for thought! Looking at your pictures, I gravitate toward darker, more colorful rooms, rather than all white/light. Would have loved an accent wall, but every wall in my bedroom has an asymmetric opening in it (corner windows, closet, entry door).

@Jan Moyer, thank you. I don't think you're crazy. I'm definitely trying to come up with an inexpensive quick fix until we can move the outlet. Honestly, we rarely have guest over that would see this area of the house, so this is more for me. :) Every time I look at that outlet I remember the conversation between hubby, myself, and the electrician when we were picking outlet locations. They both thought it should be high and I finally said, "whatever, you can move it later!" I'm still waiting! LOL! The rug will eventually be replaced. It is a carryover from the old house. When I purchase it I assumed it would be neutral enough to work with anything, but when I made the seat cushions last summer, I quickly learned better. I'll continue to use it until I refinish the wood on the sofa & chair. Once that is complete I'll get a new rug that compliments everything. The dodads in the corner are birdhouses that I stacked there while doing a quick cleanup of the house. I had them strewn across the table while replacing the chains to hang them outside. They will soon make their way to the yard and I'll just have a plant in that corner. @Debbi Washburn, good point. That would definitely be the quickest/easiest route.

I would assume those lights are on the same wall as the tv, effectively if they're on, your staring at a bulb. I would look for something that spreads the light onto the wall, might help pickup the molding a bit more as well. Think more "movie theatre" the second part of that problem is the outlet placement is pretty low, gathering they where put in based on the sconces you already have? this might make it challenging, you will need something long.

Great idea... i hadnt thought about that too much since they are a little waysaway from tv... but yet that is lots of light in eyesight. i like the first light fixture ive just had hard tome findimg something tall and wide enough to fit that space! but i could add more moulding on inside doule it up! thank you ..

I find the lighting is not an issue if on a separte circuit just turn them off when watching TV I like my TV space to be dark for watching TV, I do how ever not like shelving full of knick knacks around a TV So I would do the indent for the TV with a shallow cabinet under it for any items you need to store and be done on that wall. I do not . One carpet samle looks gray abd the other beige so your lighting is the issue so make sure it is all the same LEds I like 4000K and pot lights for overall lighting , on dimmers .
