Flooring Design Dilemma Bathrooms

How high with the tile?

We're adding a bathroom to a TRUE mid century house. We've replicated the T&G ceiling with wood beams to tie into the rest of the house. The ceiling is slightly slanted as is the rest of the space. Now I'm trying to decide how high to go up with the tile in the shower area. It's going to be curbless. The two walls in the shower are going to be a focal point but I don't know how high up to go. Any suggestios? I also want to be true to the character of the house.

First you now will have a wet floor alwaays in the bathroonm was that a plan . IMO curbless showers are only needed if you have seious mobility issues like in a wheelchair . There certainly were none in MCM homes . I have a MCM 1956 ranch IN no way do I want a 1956 bathroom in style or function so maybe at least post pics of the tile and IMO all the way up to to the ceiling in a shower and without seeing the tile who knows. MCM homes rarely had wood ceiling or beams in the bathroom either so maybe post a couple of pics of the rest of the house .

Hi there, post some pictures of the room and tile and example of the shower etc. That woukd help others help you.

Also, I’m a personal fan of curbless/ walkin showers. Alot of asian housholds have that and basically the whole bathroom is a shower and is easily cleaned with a slight slope that drains. I wish my house had that feature! How easy woukd it be to just scrub & spray the whole bathroom clean!

Plus, if you are designing for aging in place, I think this is a great feature!

I cannot soeak for what true MCM design is, but if it goes, it doesnt have to be authentic unless you want it to.

While you'll see answers anywhere from 36" to 72", the norm is usually between 42" and 52", depending on where your vanity, mirror (or hutch), and electrical switches and outlets fall. You want to make sure that especially the electrical face plates fall either all on, or all off the FIELD tile (It can't have any raised tiles like chair rail or raised pencil liners falling underneath the plates, either).

You should be fine with what you have. So long as the glass sits completely on the tile, you're fine.

@jewelisfabulous - ahh, so nice to have a window! I'd like to hang artwork, but I'd be a bit concerned it might fall and damage our new tub! @monicakm_gw - thank you taking the time to attach a photo. What a serene bath tub you have! You just gave me a great idea for the 3 walls that will be bare since we won't be tiling all the way up to the ceiling. A towel rack would look great on the back wall :) 1. Did you mean your tub is 19" in height (from the floor)? 2. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to see what your faucet for the bath tub looks like!

I would work with the dimension of your tile but I think with 99" I would go with 54"-60". Just nothing really close to half of 99. For my bathroom which is 93" I went (9 x 4.25)= 38.25" + 1.25" cove tile at bottom = 39.5" total height. ( I used full 4.25" tiles)
