Antique Farm Table - OK to Refinish?
Comments (13)Thank you all for your advice. I've reposted the images below as lindac requested, so they show (I hope). To answer questions posed: **What do you have in mind? I had in mind cleaning the table, perhaps lightly sanding the top surface, filling a few holes on the top surface, and applying some sort of finish to protect the table top. Short term I will use as a very large desk. Longer term, I would like to use as a dining table. Does anyone have recommendations for a finish? I like an oil finish, but that may be too invasive, perhaps just a wax finish? **First let's see more pictures. It's in storage, I'll see if I can supply more pictures later in the week. **What sort of wood is it? Is the paint peeling off of bare wood? What IS happening there? It's a softwood, hard to tell what, since it's so weathered. It sat outdoors for sometime. The table top appears to be raw wood--perhaps it had a wax finish at one time? The legs and and frame were painted, and are now a fragile peeling patina, peeling off bare wood. **I'm not sure I would bother with new ( matching ) legs unless you go the refinishing route.I would like to see some kind of support in the center though. The table is very strong, even with just 4 legs. It may be strong enough if I just make sure the 4 legs that are left are properly attached. Any recommendations on how to reinforce the 4 legs that are left, without doing any damage? Thanks again for your help. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/djblue_bucket/IMGP1511-sm.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/djblue_bucket/IMGP1529-sm.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/djblue_bucket/IMGP1538-sm.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/djblue_bucket/IMGP1534-sm.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/djblue_bucket/IMGP1515-sm.jpg Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreHow to support box spring in antique bed frame?

Comments (20)Oceanna, I really like the beds #1 and #8, I think I could manage something like the first one without the topiaries though. My girls are really girly, they love princesses and dresses. I really want to do something that will last into their teen years, but who knows what they will be into then. The room currently has 2 pink crystal chandeliers in it and it is similar to the color of the room caminnc posted (raspberry/toile). Just to give you a little insight, the room they are in was never finished. We bought this house 2 years ago, and it was a total gut/rehab. Prior to moving in we hired contractors to skim coat the plaster walls and put trim around windows and do crown moulding. They never finished and the GC disappeared. We had to move into it this way and they currently have 2 windows in their room that are boarded up from the outside that we found underneath paneling, no window trim on any of the 5 windows in the room. We are expecting another baby and my goal is to get their room finished before this summer. So even though I love the color, it is secret rendezvous from BM (it looked so much prettier in the tiny bedroom in my last house) I think I will change it to a pale pink, it might be a little more soothing. Someone on here posted a pale pink room about a month ago that was GORGEOUS, and now I'm stuck on it....See MoreHow do I refinish a framed mirror?
Comments (4)the type of sand paper you will use depends on what your trying to achieve....if you just want to file the dings chips out...(which if you going to distress I would leave them lol) you would use 150 grain....then a 200 grain to smooth....but if you are going to antique it....I would go buy the black antique kit you can buy at walmart for 10.00....it has everything you need....gold spray paint and black Water based stain....sand paper and paint brush...first you spray with gold let dry....sand it where you want more distress...(corners inside close to mirror etc) then paint on stain and wipe off....just keep adding more stain til you get the look you want....if you want to do it yourself with your own look or color....spray paint it the best way to go...you get a nice even finish and no brush marks...anyway good luck and post a pic when your done:) oh and here is a photo of my ivory distressed window I painted....I just love the look...See MoreSabrina Alfin Interiors
