Name That Plant!

What Has My Aloe Been Doing??

I guess I should have given it the drug talk...

Mostly I'd really like to ID the shroom, in case its tasty, before I gank it. Its in a pot that hasn't seen the outdoors for several years, in cactus soil (possibly mixed with a bit of regular soil) that was bought when the aloe was repotted in 2019 or 2020, indoors under a red/blue light in my portable greenhouse that's not had the plastic on in years (glorfied plant shelves really) over by my 8th floor window. It might have a bit of vermicompost in it, but I don't remember. And it wasn't there yesterday when I watered.

Any ideas?

- Leucocoprinus birnbaumii - commonly called the flowerpot mushroom.

While I do not feel qualified to offer a specific ID, there are a large number of saprophytic fungi that feed off of any decaying organic matter present in any potting soil. They are not at all uncommon, especially with soils that maybe overly moisture retentive or watered too frequently.

Some - but not all - species are edible. Do NOT eat unless you are 100% certain of the ID.

thanks goyom. I did call the service company and they said it was set for 75% salinity and that it should be perfect. I'll dig around in my materials when I get home to see if there's a guide that came with the SWG. I read the TFP guide as well so am feeling more confident : )

Cleaning... Things I don't do everyday... I'm having the Bible study here tomorrow and lunch. Taking a back hurting break right now...have to do that every now and then. After a few mins I can get going again. I really need to wash some throw rugs...but won't have a dryer until about 6:00. Our broke again...nothing big but Denny said he just not going to work on it anymore. The dogs drag in more dirt than all of my kids and grandkids together could have drug in ,in a life time. Arrrrgggh...so ready for them to all find a new home. patti

I cleared out all my weeds and put mulch down a month ago. All of a sudden these are everywhere. I belong to a Facebook group who said it’s an invasive weed. But the root is so thick and my husband is using a hatchet to get it out. They all spreading all over.

@dbarron no, nothing is blocking the window. we only keep the blinds down at night so it gets as much daylight as there is depending on the season so definitely a little less now

your media is breaking down.. and one of the things that breaks down media with wood in it is .. wait for it.. fungii ...

its has nothing to do with the plant .. and no impact on the plant ...

though respect chromas contributions on the forums... i simply would NOT eat a shroom based on an ID from a stranger on the WWW ... find a local expert if its worth your while.. perhaps you local county extension office can help you ... believe it or not. shroom hunters are not that rare ...

Possibly 'gank' is a typo of 'yank'?

And yeah - do not eat. The potential for serious harm is not worth it.

The only brightly colored mushroom I know of that's safe to eat is chanterelles and that is definitely not one.

Not a typo, meant it in that I will rip that sucker out in such a manner as to joyously fling it away. :D Its moot now as I accidentally knocked into it before I took that picture and its deflated now. :/

Thanks everyone for all your info! I did positively ID it from googling the Latin name iochroma gave me, and looks like a sign that my last watering was a bit much. No worries, its getting to slowdown time anyway, and I do have a meter so I'm getting better at managing water.
