My first suggestions will apply no matter what color combinations you choose. Put shutters only on the brick. Those are the only windows where shutters will fit appropriately. And, whatever the front door color, paint the storm the same. Gray: you need a green undertone to compliment the dark brick. Siding: Horizon Gray Shutters…do in a semi-gloss finish: Desert Twilight Front door and storm: Spice Gold Lovely and different with your brick color.

I honestly don't think the siding color is that bad. It is much better than if the previous owners had mindlessly slapped grey on the house. Some houses of that era had small overhangs to protect whoever had to open the garage door. That would put enough of a break between the two that the colors wouldn't matter. The green shutters I like, and I would paint the garage door to match them. Then the front door could be a brighter green. To my mind, the big problem with the house is that usually these split levels are placed on more sloping ground. Right now, both the living rooms windows and the front door look like they are hanging in midair. So the land/hardscaping has to work to ground those. Allowing the greenery to grow a bit more, and plant something smaller in front would help. I'd also like to find room to put a small shrub between the walk and the driveway.

Interesting - I like your theory about someone homesick for New Orleans LOL. As mentioned above, porch cant really be removed without leaving scars - and an overhang much deeper than the rest of the house, which would look funny. Can the balcony be used, does it make sense to open up a room to it? Part of its oddness is that its obvious that there is no door and cant be used. Whats going on under the porch, behind the hedge? Some kind of patio? You could remove the hedge, expand that and make it into useable attractive outdoor living space - framed in a border of flowering fragrant shrubs, 1 or 2 well placed ornamental trees (ie short, placed toward the side of the house), intermixed with perennials/bulbs. You could leave a few of the evergreens - its just the solid wall of them that is so unappealing. What are the rooms on the lower level - would any of those benefit by opening up to a patio? .... or maybe it could be an actual courtyard and by that I mean a professionally designed walled space which fits architecturally with your house.... not an ugly cheap privacy fence from Menards! But then that gets to be expensive too - probably more than just removing the darn thing! Otherwise, maybe just swap out the frilly iron work for something simpler/more linear, with strong horizontal lines as is fitting for this style/era. Also changing all the white to something less high contrast - would help de-emphasize it.

Hi Courtney! I really like the olive green house, actually. I think the place could use some updating and possibly a richer tone of green, but I quite like the way the house is headed. Its unique and elegant, and resembles some mid century homes. I think the place could use some updated paint on the windows, doors and garage.
