First - you have a beautiful home! If I were you- I’d spend time browsing Pinterest and the photo section on here, and save any pics of rooms that you LOVE. That will help you define what kind of style you want to aim for. If you can hire a designer; great! If not, walk furniture stores, home decor stores, etc. and take pics of everything that you love or inspires you. Then post those ideas here and we can help! In general, I agree, don’t buy things just to buy them. You’ll end up with a house full of “stuff” you don’t particularly care about. Instead, take your time and go slow. It’s normal take a couple years to fully decorate a home! Also, typically, most people go too small. Think bigger. One big piece of artwork to fill a big wall space. When it comes to items like vases, candles, lanterns- Group in 3’s. Three vases of varying weights & heights will look better than three exactly the same. Now if you’re browsing and you see something that you just LOVE and cannot live without- you want to look at it everyday - buy it! It can become an inspiration piece! Sounds weird... but in my first condo I had this mug... it was like a wheat/mustard color. I LOVED it. I decorated my condo based on that mug and loved it! HAVE FUN!! :)

1.You could have an interesting carpet runner made for the treads that would bring some interest to the space. They can be made from any carpet sold and a patterned carpet would give you an interesting design detail. 2. Are you planning on a window covering for the staircase windows? 3. You could find a pretty wallpaper that has some textural interest in a color that complements the downstairs wall color... either in a similar color a shade or two darker or something else simple that works with your other furnishings but does not compete with them. 4. I think that you will have a difficult time finding a framed piece of art for the triangular wall on the first floor. A round framed mirror might work there or a sculptural wall sconce a bit higher over the wall switch might give you some interest and function for the triangle first floor stair wall. There are many interesting sconces on the market that look like works of art. Congratulations on your new home!

My Husband and I went back and forth on what to do with our mismatched home. Either change the grey paint throughout the house or change the warm colors in the kitchen. Although it's the more expensive choice, we opted to go with the latter since our furniture is modern and grey. So without spending an arm and a leg we are wondering what is the mininum we can do to make the kitchen more modern. The cabinetry is in really good condition so we are going to paint them white. We also purchased polished nickel cabinet hardware pulls and a polished nickel chandelier and pendants. We are thinking to change the backsplash matte white subway tile with grey grout to try to match the countertops. The countertops are very busy and have a ton of warm colors running through them, but they also have a nice amount of grey, black, and white. We're hoping the lighting and hardware will pull out the greys and whites and minimize the golds and browns. We are also debating onnif we should keep the built in custom appliances or get new appliances. The current appliances work and are in hood condition but are a bit dated since they've been there since about 2009. The big range hood also looks a bit dated with the little decorative ornament on the front. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!
