What is too much space between kitchen Island and counters?
Comments (11)dawnk, you were right. Thank you! I just went to the house to map everything out and confirmed this. hollysprings - I am ok with the 39.5 inches between the sink counter and the island. My main concern was the other side. You were also right about the pinch point between the fridge and the island. That measures to be 39" and we are ok with that. GauchoGordo1993 - the fridge landing is something. It is a french door refrigerator and it is a monster. After playing around with the design a lot we could not find a better spot for it. We currently have no refrigerator landing so this will be a step up for us. Thank you everyone for all your help!...See MoreIs an angled counter useful, or just awkward space?
Comments (14)Thanks! Yes, we do plan to mix framed and frameless. I absolutely want framed w/inset doors for the uppers to match the house aesthetic (Arts & Crafts)---originally we'd planned to combine that with frameless lowers, but now the numbers are looking like it may be a mix throughout. However, one of my inspiration kitchens has exactly that so I think it will work. The main challenge is that we'd planned to do Ikea for anything frameless and custom for framed since uppers and lowers would be distinct styles and not need to match, but now it's looking more and more like we should just do custom across the board with all the mixing and matching. So much for our creative cost-savings. :) @bmorepanic, one thing I'd thought of doing with the uppers on that stretch was a 36" upper to mirror the 36" rectangle below, and then a bookshelf upper for the balance of the space (since cookbook storage is missing from the kitchen right now). Uppers will be at least 13" deep (need that much to clear our plates!) and possibly 13.5" or 14" depending on who makes them. I think I liked it better when we were doing Ikea and I didn't need to worry about measurements on all of these!! :)...See MoreCounter-depth Fridge with the most space?
Comments (28)Yes, very true. Smudge resistance would have been great. Fortunately, I live alone, so I don't anticipate too many finger prints since I will be using the handles. But I did notice the plethora of fingerprints on the floor model and it did make me think twice. But as as I could tell, fingerprints were a problem with most of the units (some more than others, this LG being among the worst...or maybe people just like to touch this one :)), with Frigidaire being the only one that was advertised as smudgeproof. Also, with smudgeproof finishes, I have heard that the finish itself can get damaged/peel over time. I just hope it's not too hard to wipe the stains off. If it was my choice, I would have gotten a white kitchen. Unfortunately, the builder put in stainless appliances as standard....See Moreseparating column refrigerator and freezer with counter space
Comments (12)@btydrvn One unit would be all freezer and one would be all refrigerator, so I don't think it would be too confusing, especially if I kept the freezer on the left (as is standard in side-by-side units). With that said, I'd consider putting the refrigerator on the left because I think I would find that more convenient (mainly because of being able to open the door with my left hand while holding items in my right)....See Moresnappity
