Have you checked your credit score lately?
Comments (2)When one anticipates going to ask for a major loan, e.g. purchase of a car or home - best to check out credit rating first. Simplifies things over having the credit granting agency find some negative stuff on your report that has no business being there. Such things leave a bad taste in their mouth, even after the issue gets straightened out - your reputation carries a bit more lasting smirch than it deserves. joyful...See MoreWorking on Credit Score.....
Comments (4)Hi vonrouge, Does this apply in all cases, or only when a person has been preapproved based on the previous, lower scores? Well, there could theoretically be an exception... but I've yet to see a lender voluntarily reduce an interest rate after their loan docs have been drawn. Without a broker badgering them, and without competitive pressures, lenders would happily write the deals as fat as they could get away with. And hey, Dave, I see you're not "just some mortgage guy" anymore! OOPS! That was a "Freudian Slip" of the signature-file trigger. I hit "D" instead of "S" (my code access for the "Some Mortgage Guy" sign off, and once "submitted" it was irretrievable. Hope Spike will overlook ;~) Cheers, Dave Donhoff Just some mortgage guy ;~)...See Moreraising credit score?
Comments (1)Suggest you take a look at your credit report (not score). It's free once a year at Annual Credit Report dot com. Then challenge anything that's not right. The main thing (I understand) is to keep use of credit low , make payments on time, and always pay at least the minimum. If you have any old credit accounts (maybe store credit cards) keep them open. There's no one you can "call" about this. Any protests about your credit info should be made in writing. The mailing addresses of the 3 credit bureaus are readily available. It takes some time for a credit score to change. Don't keep checking. Wait a few months before you check it again. Good luck....See MoreCancelling credit cards & credit score
Comments (10)Everything I've seen/heard about this is not to cancel credit cards. Cancelling them does affect your credit scores. That said, at one point I had 3 separate credit cards issued by the same bank. I use only one and pay the balance in full every month. I have received letters from the bank requesting that I either use the cards or said cards would be cancelled effective 30 days of the receipt of said letter. I didn't use them, and those accounts have been cancelled. DH hates credit cards and prefers to pay cash for purchases. I did check with the 3 credit bureaus regarding whether the cancellation by the bank for lack of use of those two cards would affect our credit scores. All three claimed that it would not, and I did manage to obtain fax confirmation of that assurance. I did pull reports at 90 days after their cancellation, and our scores hadn't changed. Unless the card company contacts you about cancelling for lack of use, I wouldn't cancel....See Moredan1888
