Entryway furniture advice!

I'm looking for advice on what furniture to place in my entryway. So far, I have a bench that will go directly underneath the mirror (the current shoe rack is temporary). Should I find a small cabinet to place beside the bench? Do I keep shoes under the bench? This entryway feels narrow and is not inviting. Looking for any suggestions on making this space look better. Thank you!

Well, unless you want your entry to feel as though it's part of the living room space (and there are instances where I could see why one would want to) I wouldn't paint both spaces the same color. How about a pale gold color? Take a look at Rich Cream, Macadamia Nut, Precious Ivory, or SW Ivoire. Or more neutral with something like Muslin. (All BM colors except the for Ivoire.)

There was no mention of a wheelchair in the original post, however, having recently been confined to a wheelchair I have some personal knowledge on this subject. Any of the chairs in the room could be removed to provide the space required. However, if you would like to use an area rug, you'll have to make sure the rug is a level loop rug and very flat, .........kind of like an indoor outdoor rug. Those rugs are stiff enough to withstand the friction from the rubber wheels and flat enough to be able to turn on the rug in the wheelchair without shifting the rug.

Okay, I tried to be a bit more accurate in scaling, using the orange line to help (it's the same as the hallway line, 9'9"). Furniture in blue again; lamps are orange stars (I put a floor lamp between the chairs and table lamps behind the sofa, just to toss the idea out there). This arrangement could be flipped so that the chairs are in front of window and the sofa is in line with hallway (but still serving as a divider to create a bit of a foyer), if you want -- but -- the chairs won't be centered on the window. Don't know how much that would bug you. There's only about 10' between the front edge of the sofa and the TV wall, by this rendering. Any way you could verify measurements? The floor plan labels the living space as 27' wide, but if my math is correct, it's only about 20' wide (added the kitchen and dining together, and subtracted the laundry). 20' minus 5'-6' for a "foyer" pathway leaves 14'-15' for furniture. Sofa tables are, say, 1'-1.5' wide, sofas 3' wide, and yeah, that leaves 10'-11' between sofa and wall. Roughly the same distance between the window and the backs of the chairs. To make it feel more open, the chairs definitely need to be in front of the window, but it pushes the sofa into the "foyer," if the chairs are centered. I dunno.... I'd prioritize creating an entry space, so I would definitely not rotate the arrangement, putting chairs across from the TV. But that is 100% my untrained self, lol. Im a bit confused when you say the tv is just a digital photo frame but you have dedicated it to be the focal point. I would get rid of that black ikea looking entertainment center. move to something much more low profile so its not taking all the attention. Also have you considered updating the lighting? Adding a larger more interesting rug. In the entry my first thought is to update the light fixture, add a console table and a long runner. In the dining room, I would again change out that light fixture, remove the mirror for more interesting art, hung lower and centered to the table. Remove the curtains that lead to the kitchen.

You have a large wall there, the mirror is too small. You could do a much larger mirror and a larger bench, and change the area rug out to either a skinnier runner or just a mat in front of the door.

Do you have a photo of the bench that will replace the piece in use now? I think a larger mirror as K R mentioned would look better. Something tall and vertical that complements the new bench.

I would place one of the coat rack pieces on the wall to the left of the front door so that it's not a "front and center" view ('cause it's gonna look messy when being used). Then, put a chunky console table or long, narrow chest under the mirror. Add a lamp with a hefty base to light the space.

Here’s a mirror possibility, though I can see in my rough mock-up it should be raised just a bit, or look for a taller mirror, I think jewelisfabulous has a good point about messy coats in such a prime spot. I think I imight move both your round mirror and the racks to the left of the door and place art above your new bench.

Do you have a closet for family coats, and are you actually going to hang guest coats on those hooks? Sorry, but it looks like you have a very nice house and what you are doing may be functional, but it doesn’t look good. I would do a tall console table with a mirror above, and hang coats elsewhere, if possible. If it’s a side entry and not the main entry, ignore.

Yes, I have a closet right around the corner that holds the coats and shoes for my family. My concern was having functionality when I have guests over. But I think you're right - I should be using the actual closet for boots/shoes/coats and having a more inviting space as a main entry. I appreciate your idea!

You need a longer runner. Bring it to the end of the mirror wall. Do something colorful, like a kilim.

It is also a good spot for wallpaper. This wall is wallpapered
