I am about to install Atroguard Southern Trail in my entire downstairs. I had a water leak which damaged all of my engineered hardwoods, which I hated. I've looked at other engineered hardwood, Coretec, luxury vinyl, and now the water-resistant laminate. The water-resistant laminate looks and feels so much more like real hardwood. I brought a piece of hardwood home and actually liked the look and feel of the laminate much better than the vinyl, Coretec, or engineered hardwood. It is 7.7" wide and about as thick as real hardwood. I certainly hope I don't have any of the problems described above.

Anytime I want to talk myself out of something or some type of product, I read the bad reviews or go searching for bad stuff... The internet almost always has bad reviews, especially the bigger the mfg and more well known the mfg is... Do your own research and try to find a good mfg and good company to buy from. Also use a good installer. When I bought my hardwood I stressed for weeks, and two years later, everything is fine. I researched the hardwood and thought for sure I was getting USA made hardwood. To my dismay, the boxes said Made in China (when they arrived)... I got over it, because I had to. I bought from ProSource and used a licensed contractor so ProSource says they'll back the product if there are any issues. So again, buy from a company that has been around a while, and go with a contractor who know's what he (or she) is doing. When I put a new roof on, I started googling the shingle brand and I was horrified at the bad reviews. Finally I had to use common sense and tell myself that millions of homes have these shingles, so of course there are going to be some bad reviews. Years later, no problems. Mohawk is a big name in the flooring world. I'm sure you can read lots of good and bad reviews with them. If you're reading bad reviews, then make notes of the complaints. If you see a lot of the same complaints, then there's a good chance those complaints are accurate. For example, if a product you like has decent reviews, but several people noted the floor dents really easily, then I'd tend to believe the floors dents easy. If they are odd ball complaints then it could be an install issue. When you read the reviews really focus on what people are complaining about. You never know, competitors may be leaving bad reviews hehehehe

I just saw this, Itsoi. I left the mustard on there for 24 hours and then cleaned it off. It faded completely after a short time (maybe a couple of days, I can't remember). I never heard about conditioning it, that could be a good idea but we've been pretty harsh on ours for the past 3 months and it's holding up really well, so might do that after a year or if a specific room needs it before. I felt that the oil finish would be easier for me to do touch ups on if I needed to. Still have construction going on but we've been living here for the past 3 months. And we routinely throw balls and toys for our dog down the long runway of the living room/hall and I've yet to see her nails scratch up anything! It's been pretty impervious to our kids dripping water in the kitchen also. I don't know how it will look in 5/10 years but at the moment, I'm still really happy with our choice. It seems like a very low maintenance, easy to clean (doesn't show much dirt/dust!) floor. We paired the Rockwood Claystone with BM OC17 on our walls and like the color combo. If you're leaning towards buying it, just buy 1 box and pop it together somewhere you can look at it for a week or so. I think you'll get a pretty good idea then if you like it or not. And if you like it, you can reuse it, win win! Good luck!
