Inexpensive ideas on updating a bath to be more modern?
Comments (29)Thanks, all, again. As you exit the bath, the kitchen is on your right. It is all one large open room -- thus my concern with the bath colors. nosoccermom: there is little to no grey in the tile. Any grey is just the shadows. If anything, there is a yellow undertone. I've looked at gel staining (for the kitchen) and read about all these disasters in the Kitchen FOrum when people try to do light maple. It makes me very afraid. I found some granite and quartz vanity tops with white sinks in prefab sizes online that may fit. I will check out the local warehouses today. The fortunate thing is that these builder vanities are a standard size, so no custom fabrication is needed. I decided to "Chip It" (the Sherwin Williams app), the photo of the rug and floor. Here's what it came up with. Sturdy Brown seems nice. I'll pick up paint swatches and see how they work with the other elements....See MoreIdeas on updating exterior from traditional to modern?
Comments (37)Thanks again for your feedback and input everyone! Olychick, I'm thinking color everything, though on the fence about trim (dark vs light). I imagine we could start by painting the body of the house first, see how it looks, then proceed with the trim. I agree that the dark trim helps blend the bow/bay windows. Very light paint with dark trim works also but would rather avoid too light of a main color. Just personal preference. Cmarlin20, we like contemporary and aren't particularly attached to the current look of the house. I think we're just afraid to commit to painting the brick as it'd be more-or-less permanent. But so far painting or removing the brick seems the way to go....See MoreHaving a hard time deciding how to update exterior!
Comments (14)I like your brick too. I think you're heading in the right direction with going gray for the trim. With your current roof you need to keep it a warmer gray (think taupe, gray/tan). A POP of color added to the front door (teal, plum, etc.) is an inexpensive and quick way to change the look of the house. As time and budget allows I would also look at changing out the wrought iron posts to a square column. Wrapping them may create a column that looks too wide, but you could give it a shot. Landscaping needs to be "brought under control" as it has an overgrown look. If you're interested in seeing some virtual makeovers of your house check out my web site, Creative Visual Concepts. I can show you how your house could look with these changes....See MoreHow can I update the exterior of this house - want a more modern feel
Comments (15)Don't spend money you don't have to. Looks like there are some wiring issues. I see dangling wires on the right side of the house. I would change the front door. The current style is Victorian. You can get one with more glass, but the shaker door Celery. Visualization, Rendering images suggested is a much better fit. I like navy on the siding, but white with black trim would be okay. Add some foundation plantings on the right. Don't plant close to the house. Allow at least a foot when the plants are at maturity between the side of the house and the edge of the plant. Don't plant anything that will grow higher than the windows. Add an ornamental tree out in the yard....See MoreMax
